How do plants dissolve rock?

Chemistry

There are two scenarios. One is the weak acids that are released by the plants and that slowly eating throught the rock, dissolving them. Eventually they destroy them and they break. The same happens with roots. Roots enter cracks and spread and grow and go through rocks and break them. These are quite common.

What is the concentration (M) of CH3OH in a solution prepared by dissolving 11.7 g of CH3OH in sufficient water to give exactly
Andrej [43]

Answer:

3.65~M

Explanation:

We have to remember the molarity equation:

M=\frac{mol}{L}

So, we have to calculate "mol" and "L". The total volume is 100 mL. So, we can do the conversion:

100~mL\frac{1~L}{1000~mL}=~0.1~L

Now we can calculate the moles. For this we have to calculate the molar mass:

O: 16 g/mol

H: 1 g/mol

C: 12 g/mol

(16*1)+(1*4)+(12*1)=32~g/mol

With the molar mass value we can calculate the number of moles:

1.7~g~of~CH_3OH\frac{1~mol~CH_3OH}{32~g~of~CH_3OH}=0.365~mol~CH_3OH

Finally, we can calculate the molarity:

M=\frac{0.365~mol~CH_3OH}{0.1~L}=3.65~M

I hope it helps!

Passing an electric current through a sample of water (H2O) can cause the water to decompose into hydrogen gas (H2) and oxygen g
Andreas93 [3]
2H2O --> 2H2 + O2
The mole H2O:mole O2 ratio is 2:1
Now determine how many moles of O2 are in 50g: 50g × 1mol/32g = 1.56 moles O2
Since 1 mole of O2 was produced for every 2 moles of H2O, we need 2×O2moles = H2O moles
2×1.56 = 3.13 moles H2O
Finally, convert moles to grams for H2O:
3.13moles × 18g/mol = 56.28 g H2O
D) 56.28

A hydrocarbon with general formaul cxhy is burned completely in air yielding 0.18 g of water and 0.44 g of carbon dioxide. Which
Savatey [412]

Answer:

CH2

Explanation:

When a hydrocarbon is burnt in air or oxygen, there are two products only, these are water and carbon iv oxide.

Fuel + Oxygen—-> Water + Carbon iv oxide

We can get the formula through calculations as follows.

From the mass of carbon iv oxide produced, we can get the number of moles of carbon produced. We first divide the mass by the molar mass of carbon iv oxide. The molar mass of carbon iv oxide is 44g/mol

The number of moles of carbon iv oxide is 0.44/44 = 0.01

Since there is only one carbon atom in CO2, the number of moles of carbon is same as above I.e 0.01 moles

From the number of moles of water, we can get the number of moles of hydrogen. To get the number of moles of water, we need to divide the mass of water by its molar mass. Its molar mass is 18g/mol. The number of moles here is thus 0.18/18 = 0.01moles

But there are 2 atoms of hydrogen in 1 mole of water and thus, the number of moles of hydrogen is 2 * 0.01= 0.02moles

The empirical formula can be obtained by dividing the number of moles of each by the smallest which is that of 0.01

H = 0.02/0.01 = 2

C = 0.01/0.01 = 1

From the calculations, x = 1 and y = 2

The empirical formula is thus CH2

Compare and contrast the two kinds of chemical bonds (ionic and covalent)
attashe74 [19]
An Ionic bond is when you have a metal and a nonmetal element bonded together. In this kind of bonds, the metal atom takes electrons from the nonmetal. on other words, this bond involves the gaining and losing of electrons. The atom that receives the electrons becomes an anion (negatively charged ion) and the one that loses them becomes the cation (positively charged ion)

A covalent bond is a bond created between two nonmetals element. In here, both atoms share the electrons.

Both bonds involve interaction between atoms.
