Answer:

Quadratic Formula

so

x = -5

and

x = 0.5

Step-by-step explanation:

Whenever you see a problem in this form, which you will see a lot of, you can try to factor it or use the "least squares" method or what have you, but those won't always work, unfortunately.

Fortunately, the quadratic formula will never fail you with quadratic expressions.

This is the Quadratic Formula

x = \frac{-b \frac{+}{-} \sqrt{b^2-4ac}  }{2a}

a is the the number on the variable with the exponent ^2

b is the number on the variable with no exponent

c is the third number

a and b cannot be equal to 0; c can be

Since we're looking for a number with an equation that has a square root in it, we're going to get two answers. These two answers come from the radical being separately added AND subtracted from the radical. It's basically two problems.

Plugging  in our numbers to this equation gives us x values of -5 and 0.5. This will always work with polynomials with factors of ^2 in them.

If you have a TI-84 calculator or newer, there's a tool on it that will factor polynomials like this one for you just by giving it the numbers.

The area of a rectangular playground is 16 square yards. The length of the playground is 4 times longer than
Alexxandr [17]

length = 8 yd and width = 2 yd

So, Option D is correct.

Step-by-step explanation:

Area of rectangular playground = 16 square yards

Width of playground = w

Length of playground = l = 4w

We need to find length(l) and width(w)

The formula used is:

Area = Length * Width

Putting values:

Area = Length * Width\\16=4w*w\\16=4w^2\\w^2=\frac{16}{4}\\w^2=4\\Taking\,\,square\,\,root:\\\sqrt{w^2}=\sqrt{4}\\ w=\pm 2

Since width of rectangle is always positive, so we will take w = 2

So. Width = 2

Length = 4w = 4(2) = 8

Hence, length = 8 yd and width = 2 yd

So, Option D is correct.

The ballpark made a total of $15,000 from ticket sales at Wednesday's game. The ballpark charges $20 for each adult ticket and $
kvasek [131]
Assume that the number of adult tickets is a and the number of child tickets is c.

We are given that the adult ticket is sold for 20$, the child ticket is sold for 10$ and that the total is $15,000. This means that:
20a + 10c = 15,000 ..........> equation I

We are also given that number of child tickets is 3 times that of adult's. This means that:
c = 3a .........> equation II

Substitute with equation II in equation I to get a as follows:
20a + 10c = 15,000
20a + 10(3a) = 15,000
20a + 30a = 15,000
50a = 15,000
a = 300 tickets

Substitute with the value of a in equation II to get c as follows:
c = 3a
c = 3(300)
c = 900 tickets

Based on the above calculations,
number of child tickets = 900 ticket
number of adult tickets = 300 ticket
