Reading fiction estimulates the audience mind, and since most of the material is made up, it estimulates focus, memory and imagination  by empathy due it's the author's imagination on the spot, and also it introduces the reader to new and strange characters and places, that's why it's essential <em>making notes</em> about what we are reading and even keeping a journal of what we are decoding or figuring out in order to fully understand and enjoy the journey.
