You are asked to determine the mass of a piece of copper using its reported density, 8.96 g/ml, and a 150-ml graduated cylinder.

first, you add 105 ml of water to the graduated cylinder; then you place the piece of copper in the cylinder and record a volume of 137 ml. what is the mass of the copper reported with the correct number of significant figures?

The mass of the copper reported with the correct number of significant figures : 290 grams

Further explanation

Density is a quantity derived from the mass and volume

Density is the ratio of mass per unit volume

The unit of density can be expressed in g / cm³ or kg / m³

Density formula:

\large{\boxed {\bold {\rho~=~ \frac {m} {V}}}}

ρ = density

m = mass

v = volume

A common example is the water density of 1 gr / cm³

A piece of copper using its reported density, 8.96 g/ml

Volume changes in the graduated cylinder indicate the volume of a piece of copper

initial volume = 105

final volume = 137

volume change = 137-105 = 32 ml

So the mass :

mass=\rho\:\times\:v

mass = 8.96 g/ml x 32 ml

mass = 286.72 gram

In multiplication and division of significant numbers, the final results look at the least number of significant numbers.

Because the number 32 on the multiplication above has 2 significant numbers, the result of multiplication must also have 2 significant numbers

So 286.72 gram round up become 290 (2 significant number)

Answer:- Mass of copper piece is 290 gram.

Solution:- We know that, mass = density * volume

density of copper is given as 8.96 gram per mL.

Volume of copper piece is the rise change in volume.

Volume of copper piece = 137 mL - 105 mL = 32 mL

Let's multiply the volume by density to calculate the mass of copper:

mass of copper = 32mL(\frac{8.96g}{mL})

mass of copper = 286.72 g

Volume has two significant figures, so if we round the mass to two significant figures then it becomes 290 g.

Cu is in FCC structure. We know that even at close to melting temperature, vacancies are still sparsely distributed, i.e., it is
sveticcg [70]

Answer:

6

Explanation:

FCC is face centered cubic lattice. In FCC structure, there are eight atoms at the eight corner of the cubic unit cell and one atom centered in each of the faces. FCC unit cells consist of four atoms, (8/8) at the corners and (6/2) in the faces.

Given that, Cu has FCC structure and it contains a vacancy at origin (0, 0, 0). And there is no other vacancy directly adjacent to the vacancy at the origin. So, all the adjacent positions contain Cu atoms. Hence, the total number of adjacent atoms of the vacancy at origin can jump into this vacancy.

the above FCC unit cell clearly indicates that there are six adjacent atoms adjacent to the vacancy at origin

So, the total number of adjacent atoms of the vacancy at origin can jump into this vacancy is 6.
