Hamilton's vision for the United States was that of a strong, united nation. He believed that in order to achieve this, a strong central government was required, as opposed to the strong state governments that the Anti-Federalists were seeking.

His main fear regarding the ratification was that, if the constitution was not adopted, the country would become fragmented, and the states would become too independent.
