What would you say were the advantages and disadvantages of nationalism?

Social Studies
1 answer:
Kipish [7]2 years ago

I believe that an advantage to the idea of nationalism is the concrete, established national identity that unites people in a particular area. It emphasizes patriotism and self-determination, which can be empowering concepts for the individual to possess in his or her personal life. However, an unfortunate disadvantage to nationalism is its vulnerability to radical ideas. An extremist ideology can easily rise from a nationalistic base and promote an exclusive identity of peoplehood. This, in turn, may lead to discrimination among members of a country who may not affiliate nationalistically. Simply put, refer back to historical examples of nationalism going too far (Nazi Germany and Fascist Italy).

what are three arguments as to what extent individuals or nations should care about the disparity of Human Rights in countries
Vinil7 [7]
I don't know whether there is an official list, such as from the UN, but here are some  arguments from me:

1. Individuals and nations should care about human rights in other countries because they often trade with other countries. If e.g. US buys goods produced with slave labour elsewhere, it still means that it supports (indirectly) slave labour

2. Human rights violations can lead to extremism and pottential terrorist activities: thus violence in one country can lead to violence in another

3. Countries should care about human rights violetions in other countries, because it can affect this country's citizens while abroad (recently an UK citizen was arrested for being homosexual in Morocco).

For this assignment, you will use geographic tools to analyze how this natural disaster affected the
Zepler [3.9K]

Answer:

Living in a city that had suffered a devastating earthquake. Many buildings had collapsed, and people struggled to rebuild. It was difficult, but the city was recovering. Then, even stranger events occurred. Fish were dying in a nearby river. Springs of water dried up. Plants on a nearby mountain began to die. Then, the mountain itself exploded with fire. Lava flowed, and ash covered everything.

In 62 CE, a terrible earthquake destroyed much of the city, and thousands of people died. Tremors continued to shake the ground, but the people did not leave the city. They repaired it! However, in the spring of 79 CE, fish and plants died. Tremors became more frequent. In either August or October, a loud bang signaled the release of lava from Mount Vesuvius
