A nuclear reaction can be controlled using which of the following?
gavmur [86]

Control rods is regarded as a substance which can control nuclear reaction and is denoted as option A.

<h3>What is Nuclear reaction?</h3>

This is a type of reaction which involves the nuclei of an atom being split or joined together and is usually accompanied with a great amount of energy emitted in the form of heat.

The two types of nuclear reaction include:

  • Nuclear fusion
  • Nuclear fission

Nuclear fusion involves the collision of two or more nuclei in other form a new atom while nuclear fission involves splitting the atoms to form other products and involves a very high amount of energy and exposure to organisms should be prevented as the radiations can alter DNA.

Control rods are commonly used in nuclear reactors and control the rate of  fission in the fuel used. This is therefore the reason why it was chosen as the most appropriate choice.

The density of a certain type of plastic is 0.81 g/cm3. If a sheet of this plastic is 10.0 m long, 1.0 m wide, and 1 cm thick, w
crimeas [40]

<u>Answer:</u> The mass of plastic sheet is 8.1\times 10^4g

<u>Explanation:</u>

The plastic sheet is in the form of cuboid. To calculate the volume of cuboid, we use the equation:

V=lbh

where,

V = volume of cuboid

l = length of cuboid = 10.0 m = 1000 cm     (Conversion factor: 1 m = 100 cm)

b = breadth of cuboid = 1.0 m = 100 cm

h = height of cuboid = 1 cm

Putting values in above equation, we get:

V=1000\times 100\times 1=10^5cm^3

To calculate mass of a substance, we use the equation:

\text{Density of substance}=\frac{\text{Mass of substance}}{\text{Volume of substance}}

We are given:

Density of plastic sheet = 0.81g/cm^3

Volume of plastic sheet = 10^5cm^3

Putting values in equation 1, we get:

0.81g/cm^3=\frac{\text{Mass of plastic sheet}}{10^5cm^3}\\\\\text{Mass of plastic sheet}=8.1\times 10^4g

Hence, the mass of plastic sheet is 8.1\times 10^4g
