Determine whether the following pairs of elements can form ionic compounds.

Chemistry

hoa [83]3 years ago

Answer:

• Sodium and oxygen

• Manganese and chlorine

• Oxygen and calcium

• Chlorine and sodium

Explanation:

Ionic compounds are formed when a very electronegative element (that is, that has <em>high electronic affinity</em>), comes into contact with a low electronegative or very electropositive element (it is said to have low <em>ionization potential</em>). Thus, an electron transfer takes place, from the electropositive element, remaining with less electrons than its original form and forming a cation, towards the most electronegative, which is left with more electrons than the initial ones, and forms an anion. The difference in charges between the elements causes the union to occur due to the opposite electrostatic forces between them.

This type of bonding occurs between metals with nonmetals, because among these there is a large difference in electronegativity, and the transfer of electrons occurs from metals, which form cations, to nonmetals, which remain as anions.

Therefore, the pairs of elements that can form this type of compound are the pairs that contain a metal and a nonmetal. They are:

• Sodium and oxygen

• Manganese and chlorine

• Oxygen and calcium

• Chlorine and sodium

The other pairs described in the statement (<em>Nitrogen and iodine - Potassium and calcium</em>), are formed by elements of the same family <em>(two nonmetals and two metals</em>, respectively), so there is no significant electronegativity difference so that ionic bonding occurs.

The enzyme Y catalyzes the elementary reaction
lions [1.4K]

Answer:

0.7μM = 0.6 μM = 0.5 μM > 0.4 μM > 0.3 μM > 0.2 μM

Explanation:

An enzyme solution is saturated when all the active sites of the enzyme molecule are full.  When an enzyme solution is saturated, the reaction is occurring at the maximum rate.

From the given information, an enzyme concentration of 1.0 μM Y can convert a maximum of 0.5 μM AB to the products A and B per second means that a 1.0 M Y solution is saturated when an AB concentration of 0.5 M or greater is present.

The addition of more substrate to a solution that contains the enzyme required  for its catalysis will generally increase the rate of the reaction. However, if the enzyme is saturated with substrate, the addition of more substrate will have no effect on the rate of reaction.

<em>Therefore the reaction rates at substrate concentrations of 0.7μM, 0.6 μM, and 0.5 μM are equal. But the reaction rate at substrate concentrations of  0.2 μM is lower than at 0.3 μM, 0.3 μM is lower than 0.4 μM and 0.4 μM is lower than 0.5 μM, 0.6 μM and 0.7 μM.</em>

The density of gold is 19.3 g/cm3. What is the volume of a 575 gram bar of pure gold?
Gnoma [55]

Answer:

The  answer to your question is: Volume = 29.79 cm³

Explanation:

Data

Density of gold = 19.3 g/cm3

Mass = 575 grams

Formula

density = mass / volume

Volume = mass/density

Volume = 575 g / 19.3 g/cm3

Volume = 29.79 cm³
