In the fall, you go to the local nursery and purchase a package of 10 rose plants. The clerk informs you that on average you can

expect 5% of the plants to not live through the winter. Assume that the plants are a random sample.
a) Use the binomial formula to determine the probability that one or more of the plants will not survive the winter.
b) What is the probability that all the plants will survive? Write how the binomial formula is used to calculate the probability.

Let success be that a plant dies in the winter and failure be that a plant survives the winter, then
 p = 0.05, q = 1 - 0.05 = 0.95

a.) P(1 or more will not survive the winter) = 1 - P(all will survive the winter) = 1 - P(0) = 1 - 10C0 (0.05)^0 (0.95)^10 = 1 - 1(1)(0.5987) = 0.4013

b.) P(all will survive) = P(none will die) = P(0) = 0.5987

The number of nails of a given length is normally distributed with a mean a length of 5 in. and a
malfutka [58]

Answer:

82 nails

Step-by-step explanation:

4.97 and 5.03   are both one standard deviation from the mean...

z scores    . 8413    and  .1587

.8413 - .1587 = .6826    or    68.26 %  of the nails are in this range

68.26 %  *  120 = ~82 nails

Estimate the solution of the equation x – 8.1 = 5.3 to the nearest whole number.
Art [367]

Answer:

13 is your answer

Step-by-step explanation:

x - 8.1 = 5.3

  +8.1    +8.1         Add 8.1 to both sides

x     =     13.4

Which if you want the whole number i'd be 13, Because if your rounding the 3, 4 won't bump the 3 up any because 4 isn't greater than 5.

Hope my answer has helped you!

Which table shows a proportional relationship between X and Y?
Natasha_Volkova [10]

Answer:

Table 3

X. 1,3,4,5

Y. 50,150,200,250

Step-by-step explanation:

we know that

A relationship between two variables, x, and y, represent a proportional variation if it can be expressed in the form k=\frac{y}{x} or y=kx

<u><em>Verify each table</em></u>

Find the value of k for each ordered pair

If the value of k is the same for all ordered pairs, then the table represents a proportional relationship.

If the k-value is different for any of the ordered pairs, then the table does not represent a proportional relationship

<em>Table 1</em>

For x=2, y=6 ---> k=\frac{y}{x} ----> k=\frac{6}{2}=3

For x=4, y=12 ---> k=\frac{y}{x} ----> k=\frac{12}{4}=3

For x=5, y=18 ---> k=\frac{y}{x} ----> k=\frac{18}{5}=3.6

The values of k are different

therefore

The table 1 not represent a proportional relationship

<em>Table 2</em>

For x=3, y=1.5 ---> k=\frac{y}{x} ----> k=\frac{1.5}{3}=0.5

For x=5, y=2.5 ---> k=\frac{y}{x} ----> k=\frac{2.5}{5}=0.5

For x=7, y=3 ---> k=\frac{y}{x} ----> k=\frac{3}{7}=0.4

The values of k are different

therefore

The table 2 not represent a proportional relationship

<em>Table 3</em>

For x=1, y=50 ---> k=\frac{y}{x} ----> k=\frac{50}{1}=50

For x=3, y=150 ---> k=\frac{y}{x} ----> k=\frac{150}{3}=50

For x=4, y=200 ---> k=\frac{y}{x} ----> k=\frac{200}{4}=50

For x=5, y=250 ---> k=\frac{y}{x} ----> k=\frac{250}{5}=50

The values of k are the same

therefore

The table 3 represent a proportional relationship

<em>Table 4</em>

For x=1, y=1.5 ---> k=\frac{y}{x} ----> k=\frac{1.5}{1}=1.5

For x=2, y=3 ---> k=\frac{y}{x} ----> k=\frac{3}{2}=1.5

For x=3, y=6 ---> k=\frac{y}{x} ----> k=\frac{6}{3}=2

The values of k are different

therefore

The table 4 not represent a proportional relationship

The table shows the sales receipt for your purchase.
Brrunno [24]

The sales receipt for the purchase includes the sales tax

  • The sales tax is 6%
  • The price at the top is $7.50
  • The original price at the top is $12.50

<h3>How to determine the percent of sales tax?</h3>

The sales tax is calculated as:

Percentage sales tax * (Sum of Items subjected to tax) =  Sales tax.

So, we have:

T * (3 + 0.5) =  0.21

Evaluate the sum

T * (3.5) =  0.21

Divide both sides by 3.5

T =  6%

Hence, the sales tax is 6%

<h3>The price at the top</h3>

The price (p) at the top is calculated using:

p = 13 - 3 - 2 - 0.5

Evaluate the difference

p = 7.5

Hence, the price at the top is $7.50

<h3>The original price at the top</h3>

60% of the original price (P) is p.

So, we have:

60% * P = p

Substitute 7.5 for p

60% * P = 7.5

Divide both sides by 60%

P = 12.5

Hence, the original price at the top is $12.50
