Part 1:
perimeter = 2(Length + width)
if the width is 1/3 it's length, then
width = 1/3L
plug that into the first equation
perimeter = 2( L + 1/3L)

Part 2:
the perimeter of the rectangle from part 1 is 56 inches. using this we can solve for L, the length:
56 = 2(L + 1/3 L)
56 = 2L + 2/3L
56 = 2 2/3 L
L = 21

Now that we know the length, we can solve for the width.
L = 21
W = 1/3 L
W = 1/3 x 21
W = 7

Using the Length (21 inches) and the Width (7 inches), we can solve for the area of the rectangle.
Area = length x width
Area = 21 inches x 7 inches
Area = 147 square inches

Sergio [31]

To find 1,188 divided by 12. I think about 1,200 divided by 12 that's groups 100 of 12. 1,188 has fewer group of 12

Answer: If we divide 1200 by 12, we will get 100 12's in 1200.

But our question is 1188 divided by 12.

So the difference between 1200 and 1188 is 12. Therefore there will be 99 12's in 1188.

Therefore, 1188 divided by 12 is 99.

Also I have shown in the image attached how 1188 divided by 12 is 99.

Runners in a long distance race start out going 5 kilometers south and then head west for the remainder of the race. The finish
OleMash [197]
You may recognize the numbers as belonging to the (5, 12, 13) Pythagorean triple. The runners traveled 12 km west after traveling 5 km south. Their total distance was ...
  5 km +12 km = 17 km

_____
By the Pythagorean theorem, ...
  (straight-line distance)² = (distance south)² +(distance west)²
In km, this is
  13² = 5² +(distance west)²
  169 -25 = (distance west)²
  √144 = 12 = distance west
