If you bought 600 shares of stock for $41 per share, paid 1% commission , and then sold them 6 months later for $41.75 per share
melamori03 [73]

Total value of stocks purchased = 600*41 = $24,600

The commission paid = 1% = 0.01 *24,600 = $246

Total purchase cost = $24,600 + $246  = $24,846

Sale price = $41.75

Total sale proceeds = 41.75*600  = $25,050

There is a flat commission of $30 on the sale

Total sale proceeds after commission = $25,050 -$30 = $25,020

Net proceeds = Total sales vale - total purchase cost

Net proceeds = 25,020 - 24,846  = $204 (profit)

Since we have a profit, the answer is sale proceeds are positive

Determine whether f(x)=5x+1/x and g(x)=x/5x+1 are inverse function. EXPLAIN how you know?
Alekssandra [29.7K]
Ok to figure out if one is an inverse function, you plug in y for x and substitute f(x) with x and solve for y.

We only have to do this for 1 of the functions so we will take f(x)

x = 5y +1/y

I’m not sure you can solve for y here therefore g(x) is not an inverse function of f(x)

Raj earned 58 and spent 42, so he saved 58-42 = 16.

Michael earned 83 and saved 20, so he spent 63, but that doesn't matter.

for Raj, 100% of his earning is 58, how much is 16 off of it as a percentage?

\bf \begin{array}{ccll} amount&\%\\ \cline{1-2} 58&100\\ 16&x \end{array}\implies \cfrac{58}{16}=\cfrac{100}{x} \implies 58x=1600 \\\\\\ x=\cfrac{1600}{58}\implies \boxed{x\approx 27.586}

for Michael, 100% of his earnings is 83, how much is 20 off of it as a percentage?

\bf \begin{array}{ccll} amount&\%\\ \cline{1-2} 83&100\\ 20&x \end{array}\implies \cfrac{83}{20}=\cfrac{100}{x}\implies 83x=2000 \\\\\\ x=\cfrac{2000}{83}\implies \boxed{x\approx 24.096}

and you can see clearly which percentage is higher.
