This equation shows how the total cost of visiting the science museum as a member is related to the number of visits. c = 9.8v +

22.7 The variable v represents the number of visits to the science museum, and the variable c represents the total cost of those visits. What is the maximum number of visits a member of the science museum can make for a total cost of $42.30?

1st plug in 42.30 as C. 42.30=9.8v+22.7
2nd: subtract 22.7 from both sides to cancel it out. 42.30-22.7=9.8v+22.7-22.7
3rd: simplify. 19.6=9.8v
4th: divide by 9.8 so that it cancels out. 19.6/9.8=9.8v/9.8
5th: simplify. 2=V

Well it's giving you what the cost is (42.3), so plug that in for c:

42.3 = 9.8v + 22.7

And now you need to solve for the number of visits (v)!

19.6 = 9.8v

v=2

So you can visit the museum a maximum of 2 times!

A rectangle has a perimeter of 30 feet and an area of 50 square feet. What are the dimensions of the rectangle.
KiRa [710]

I believe the shorter sides are 5 feet and the longer ones are 10. This is because when you add up the two shorter sides as 10, and the other two as 20, then add them up to 30. That's the perimeter. For the area, you would do 10•5 to get 50 for the area

Given:

The area of a rectangle is 99 square yd.

Length of the rectangle = 7 yd more than twice the width.

To find:

The dimensions of the rectangle.

Solution:

Let x be the width of the rectangle. Then, length of the rectangle is:

Length=2x+7

Area of a rectangle is:

A=length\times width

A=(2x+7)\times x

A=2x^2+7x

The area of a rectangle is 99 square yd.

2x^2+7x=99

2x^2+7x-99=0

Splitting the middle term, we get

2x^2+18x-11x-99=0

2x(x+9)-11(x-9)=0

(x+9)(2x-11)=0

Using zero product property, we get

(x+9)=0 and (2x-11)=0

x=-9 and x=\dfrac{11}{2}

x=-9 and x=5.5

Width of the rectangle cannot be negative. So, x=5.5 yd.

Now, the length of the rectangle is:

Length=2x+7

Length=2(5.5)+7

Length=11+7

Length=18

Therefore, the length of the rectangle is 18 yd and the width of the rectangle is 5.5 yd.
