In a chemical system, inter- and intra-molecular forces of interactions are operable. Intramolecular forces are the forces that hold atoms together within a molecule, while intermolecular forces are forces<span> that exist between molecules. Thus, it is intermolecular forces of attraction which holds two or more molecules together.

intermolecular forces are of following types
1) Dispersion
2) Dipole-Dipole interaction
3) Ion-Dipole Interaction and
4) Hydrogen bonding.

In case of water, it is Hydrogen bonding which is responsible for holding molecules together.

With reference to hydrogen bonding, it must be noted that it</span><span> is an </span>electrostatic<span> attractive interaction between hydrogen atom that is bonded to
</span>electronegative<span> atom (such as </span>nitrogen<span>, </span>oxygen<span>, or </span>fluorine)<span> and another atom, adjacent to it, which has </span>lone pair<span> of electrons.

In case of water, hydrogen atom of one water molecule interacts with lone pairs of electrons present on oxygen atom of other water molecule.</span>

Describe the worlds outer core
Tema [17]
Earth's outer core is a fluid layer about 2,400 km (1,500 mi) thick and composed of mostly iron and nickel that lies above Earth's solid inner core and below its mantle. Its outer boundary lies 2,890 km (1,800 mi) beneath Earth's surface. ... Unlike the inner (or solid) core, the outer core is liquid.

Express the result of the following calculation in scientific notation: 0.0263 cm2÷ 88.2 cm
VikaD [51]

<u>Answer:</u> The result of the given calculation is 2.98\times 10^{-4}cm

<u>Explanation:</u>

Scientific notation is defined as the notation in which a number is expressed in the decimal form. This means that the number is always written in the power of 10 form.

We are given an expression:

\Rightarrow \frac{0.0263cm^2}{88.2cm}

The operation carried out in the above expression is division operation. The units are also treated in the same way.

The solution for the above expression is:

\Rightarrow \frac{0.0263cm^2}{88.2cm}=0.000298cm

The value in scientific notation is 2.98\times 10^{-4}cm

Hence, the result of the given calculation is 2.98\times 10^{-4}cm

What is the mass of 8.12 × 10^23 molecules of CO2 gas? (Atomic mass of carbon = 12.011 u; oxygen = 15.999 u.)
amid [387]

Answer:

m=59.3gCO_2

Explanation:

Hello,

In this case, the first step is to compute the molar mass of carbon dioxide as shown below, considering it has one carbon atom and two oxygen atoms:

M=12.011g/mol+2*15.999g/mol\\\\M=44.009g/mol

It is important to notice it is the mass in one mole of such compound. Afterwards, we need to use the Avogadro's number to compute the how many moles are in the given molecules of carbon dioxide as shown below:

mol=8.12x10^{23}molec*\frac{1mol}{6.022x10^{23}molec} =1.35mol

Finally, the mass by using the molar mass:

m=1.35mol*\frac{44.009g}{1mol} \\\\m=59.3gCO_2

Best regards.
