Injury triggers an inflammatory response in order to recruit cells (phagocytes come to the damaged area and destroy present microorganisms) and chemicals to the site of the damage to repair it. This process is called inflammation. Inflammation is accompanied by signs and symptoms that include heat, swelling, redness, and pain and it is controlled by the nervous stimulation and chemical substances-cytokines.
