In August 2011, the Juno spacecraft was launched from Earth with the mission of orbiting Jupiter in 2016. The closest distance b

etween Jupiter and Earth is 391 million miles. (a) If it takes 5.0 years for Juno to reach Jupiter, what is its average speed in mi/hr over this period? (b) Once Juno reaches Jupiter, what is the minimum amount of time it takes for the transmitted signals to travel from the spacecraft to Earth?

(a) 8927 mi/h

In order to calculate the average speed, we need to convert the time (t=5.0 y) into hours first. In 1 year, we have 365 days, each day consisting of 24 hours, so the time taken is:

t=(5.0 y)(365 d/y)(24 h/d)=43,800 h

The distance covered by the spacecraft is

d=391 mil. mi = 391\cdot 10^6 mi

Therefore, the average speed is just the ratio between the distance covered and the time taken:

v=\frac{d}{t}=\frac{391\cdot 10^6 mi}{43,800 h}=8,927 mi/h

(b) 35 minutes (2097 seconds)

The transmitted signals (which is a radio wave, which is an electromagnetic wave) travels back to the Earth at the speed of light:

c=3.0\cdot 10^8 m/s

Since 1 miles = 1609 metres, the distance covered  by the signal is

d=391\cdot 10^6 mi \cdot (1609 m/mi)=6.29\cdot 10^{11} m

So, the time taken by the signal will be

t=\frac{d}{v}=\frac{6.29\cdot 10^{11} m}{3.0\cdot 10^8 m/s}=2097 s

And since 1 minute = 60 sec, the time taken is

t=2097 s \cdot \frac{1}{60 s/min}\sim 35 min

A shark is cruising at 4 m/s when it sees a fish straight
Oksanka [162]

Answer:

Distance, S = 13m

Explanation:

Given the following data;

Initial velocity, u = 4m/s

Final velocity, v = 9m/s

Time, t = 2 seconds

To find the distance, S;

First of all, we would determine the acceleration of the shark.

Acceleration = (v - u)/t

Acceleration = (9 - 4)/2

Acceleration = 5/2

Acceleration = 2.5m/s²

Now, to find the distance we would use the second equation of motion

S = ut + ½at²

Substituting into the equation, we have

S = 4(2) + ½*2.5*2²

S = 8 + 1.25*4

S = 8 + 5

Distance, S = 13m

Consider the case of the car starting at rest and accelerating forward. A. Since the air inside the car is not leaking out, it m
Alchen [17]

Answer:

The force originates from the tires. Tires accelerate the car. The car interior in turn accelerates the air inside the car by providing a pushing force. Thus it is the car read windows, seats and side windows that push the air forward causing it to accelerate.

Explanation:

The air inside the car is being forced forward by the car interior. This includes the rear windows, seats, side windows etc.

This accelerating force originates from the tires, and makes the car interior accelerate with the car. The air inside (since it has no direct connection to the tires) is then pushed forward by the windows, seats etc.

A single crystal of aluminum is oriented for a tensile test such that its slip plane normal makes angle of 28.1 with the tensil
NISA [10]

Answer:

we have to find out the critical resolved shear stress. As it it given in the question

Ф = 28.1°and the possible values for λ are 62.4°, 72.0° and 81.1°.

a) Slip will occur in the direction where cosФ cosλ are maximum. Cosine for all possible λ values are given as follows.

cos(62.4°) = 0.46

cos(72.0°) = 0.31

cos(81.1°) = 0.15

Thus, the slip direction is at the angle of 62.4° along the tensile axis.

b) now the critical resolved shear stress can be find out by the following equation.

τ_{crss} = σ_{Y} ( cosФ cosλ)_{max}

now by putting values,

     = (1.95MPa)[ cos(28.1) cos(62.4)] = 0.80 MPa (114 Psi) 7.23
