The right answer is D.

The effectiveness of BT-Corn compared to conventional insecticide treatment is very much higher:

* The plant itself produces the toxin that blocks the digestion of or target insects: the entire plant is protected where a treatment (out of neonicotinoids, very expensive and reserved to the seed treatment) allows only a protection of surface and must be renewed several times.

* The selectivity of the treatment is very superior: each variant of the BT molecule targets only a family of insects but we do not know the impact of their cumulative effects in the environment.

12.) Using graph 1, explain how enzymes work. Include the term activation energy and compare the two curves,
seropon [69]

Answer:

Enzymes create chemical reactions in the body. They actually speed up the rate of a chemical reaction to help support life. The enzymes in your body help to perform very important tasks.

Explanation:

To understand more about working of enzyme and its activation energy lets consider few points:

• In biochemical processes, molecules require energy in order to start a reaction. For example, molecules need to have some kinetic energy, or velocity, to collide with other molecules to initiate a reaction. If the collisions don't happen often or don't have enough kinetic energy, no reaction will take place. The energy required to start a reaction is called the activation energy.

• Reactants and products have specific energies. In order to transform the reactants into products, the reactants would have to go through a transition state which is usually higher in energy.

• In this graph we see the plot of energy versus the progress of a reaction. Reactants have higher energy than products. The energy of the reactants increase and then decrease to the final product energy. The highest point in the curve represents the energy of the intermediate state in the reaction. The energy required to achieve the intermediate state is the activation energy of the reaction.

Thus, we conclude that enzyme requires certain amount of energy to complete the reaction and that energy is known as activation energy for the reaction.

Suppose the human trait for hair type is controlled by a simple dominant and recessive relationship at one locus. Curly hair, C,
myrzilka [38]

Answer:

A) The frequency of the dominant allele, C = 0.4376

B) frequency of the heterozygous genotype, Cc = 0.2461

Explanation:

Given -

Curly hair, C, is the dominant allele, and straight hair, c, is the recessive allele

Number of students with curly hair is 37

Thus frequency of genotype "CC"

= q^{2} = \frac{37}{117} \\= 0.3162

Thus, frequency of allele "q"

= \sqrt{0.3162} \\= 0.5623

As per Hardy Weinberg's first equation-

p+q=1

Substituting the value of q, we get -

p+0.5623=1\\p= 0.4376

As per Hardy Weinberg's second equation -

p^2+q^2+2pq=1\\

Substituting the values of "p" and "q" we get -

0.4376^{2} + 0.3162+2pq = 1\\2pq = 0.2461\\

Hence,

A) The frequency of the dominant allele, C = 0.4376

B) frequency of the heterozygous genotype, Cc = 0.2461

Black fur in mice (
Tpy6a [65]
The answer is D) 1/2.

Let's imagine that two genes of the genotype can be analysed separately.

Black fur is determined by dominant allele B. In this case, parents Bb and BB will give offspring with only brown fur:
Parents: Bb x BB
Offspring: BB BB Bb Bb
Both homozygous (BB) and heterozygous (Bb) offspring will have black fur.

On the other hand, long tails are determined by recessive allele t. Parents Tt and tt will have 50% offspring with short tail and 50% offspring with long tail:
Parents: Tt x tt
Offspring: Tt Tt tt tt
Heterozygous offspring (Tt) will have short tail, and homozygous offspring (tt) will have a long tail.

So, the offspring will definitely have black fur and will not affect the fraction of the offspring with black fur and long tails from the cross of BbTt × BBtt. But, there will be 2 out of 4 offspring with short tails which is 50% or 1/2.
