Let M be the age of Maggie and B the age of her younger Brother:

Rewrite the problem from English language to Math's:
 B = 2.M - 10 (1)
and  M + B = 29 (Given) OR    B  =  29 -M (2)
Plug 2) into 1):

29 -M = 2.M -10
 29 + 10 = 3 M →→3M = 39 and M = 39/3 = 13
Replace M by 13 and you will find B =6

Then Maggie = 13 year old and her brother B = 6 year old

Deanna uses only fruit juice and sparkling water to make punch for a school dance. She uses 6 liters of fruit juice. She uses 0.
Softa [21]

Answer: 3.6 liters

Step-by-step explanation:

You know that:

- She uses 6 liters of fruit juice.

- She uses 0.6 as much sparkling water as fruit juice.

Therefore, let's call x the amount of fruit punch she made.

Keeping the above on mind, you can solve the problem by multiplying the 6 liter of fruit juice she uses by 0.6.

Therefore the result is:

x=(6liter)(0.6)\\x=3.6liters

Julie travels 3 times as fast as Bill. Traveling in opposite directions, they are 190 miles apart after 2.5 hours. Find their ra
Mkey [24]

Answer:

Step-by-step explanation:

Let b

Bill's rate of travel = x

Let Julie's rate of travel = 3x

The time each travels is 2.5 hours

Together they travel a distance of 190 miles

d = r*t

Bill's distance covered is r * t = 2.5x

Julie's distance travel is 2.5 * 3x = 7.5x

The total distance = Bill + Julie

2.5x + 7.5x = 190

10x = 190

x = 190/10

x = 19

Bill's distance = 2.5 * 19 = 47.5

Julie's distance = 19 * 7.5 = 142.5

Rate = distance / time

Bill's rate = 47.5 / 2.5 = 19 miles per hour.

Julie's rate = 142.5/2.5 = 57 miles per hour

Is there an easier way?

You should notice that Bill's rate is just x which is 19 miles / hour

You can also notice that Julie is going 3 times as fast or 19*3 = 57
