Alcohol, tobacco, and other drugs are all extremely addictive.

People can get severe withdrawals if they don't take them. (Withdrawals are side effects of not taking a drug they are addicted to.) This makes them want to continue using the drug. Also, once you use a drug a lot, you grow a tolerance to it, which makes you need to use more to get the same effect. This would cause more and more money to be spent on drugs. This would also cause serious health issues, for example, smoking, damages your lungs by removing the small, just say wavy things, that hit damaging things away. This would cause more buildup on the lungs, causing the person to eventually get lung cancer.
