Correct answer: Cuba

The Spanish-American War was fought in 1898, after the USS Maine exploded in the Havana harbor of Cuba. The USA blamed Spain for the explosion, though that has not been verified. The main issue of the war was the independence of Cuba from Spanish dominance.

In early July, 1898, the US Navy won the last major naval confrontation of the war, at the Battle of Santiago. The siege of the city of Santiago itself followed, from July 3-17. At the end of the siege, both the US and Spanish government agreed to terms of "capitulation" (avoiding the term "surrender," though that's what it was). Spanish troops exited Santiago on July 17.

Comedy routines that are mildly amusing in an uncrowded room seem funnier in a densely packed room. This is an example of?
mel-nik [20]

Comedy routines that are mildly amusing in an uncrowded room seem funnier in a densely packed room is an example of social facilitation.

Social facilitation is a social psychological phenomenon that refers to the tendency for people to perform better on simple tasks when they are in the presence of other people.

The phenomenon was first identified by Norman Triplett in 1898, who found that cyclists rode faster when racing in the presence of others.

There are a number of explanations for social facilitation. One theory is that the presence of others serves as a source of motivation, leading people to try harder to succeed. Another explanation is that the presence of others provides a level of distraction that helps people focus on the task at hand.

Overmier and Seligman have described the phenomenon of learned _________ as the tendency to feel powerless in the face of events
FromTheMoon [43]

Answer:

Overmier and Seligman have described the phenomenon of learned helplessness as the tendency to feel powerless in the face of events that we can't control.

In 1967, Overmier and Seligman conducted a research, which showed that dogs, once found in an uncontrollable situation such as unavoidable electric shocks, were incapable of escaping a different situation, although there was a possible escape in that situation. The phenomenon of learned helplessness is also commonly experienced by humans who, after repeatedly going through a stressful situation, believe they do not have control over the events. They fail to take any action, even if there is a possible solution.
