Let x represent the smaller angle. Then the larger one is 20+4x. Since they are complementary, their sum is 90. (All measures are degrees.)

90 = x + (20+4x)
90 = 5x +20
70 = 5x
14 = x

The smaller angle is 14°.
The larger angle is 76°.

Find the two numbers whose sum is 24 and whose product is as large as possible.
svetlana [45]
Let, the numbers are: x, (24-x)
Let, P(x) denote their products. Then, we have:
P(x) = x(24-x) = 24x - x²
P'(x) = 24-2x
P''(x) = -2

Now, P'(x) = 0 ⇒ x = 12
Also,
P''(12) = -2 < 0

So, By second derivative test, x = 12 is the point of local maxima of p. Hence the product of the numbers is the maximum when the numbers are 12 and (24-12) = 12

So, In short that numbers would be 12,12

Hope this helps!

What is 90/70<br> Simplified
allsm [11]

As an improper fraction, the simplified answer would be 9/7 after you divide both top and bottom by 10

------------------------

If you need a mixed number, then 9/7 converts to 1 & 2/7 because

9/7 = 1 remainder 2

If you had 9 cookies and 7 friends, then each friend gets 1 whole cookie, and there will be 2 left over.
