Artista: Edvard Munch


Descripción y análisis de la obra de arte: a lo largo de su carrera artística, Munch se centró en escenas de muerte, agonía y ansiedad en retratos distorsionados y cargados de emociones, todos los temas y estilos que adoptarían los expresionistas. Aquí, en la pintura más famosa de Munch, representa la batalla entre el individuo y la sociedad. El escenario de The Scream fue sugerido al artista mientras caminaba por un puente que daba a Oslo; como recuerda Munch, "el cielo se volvió tan rojo como la sangre. Me detuve y me apoyé en la cerca ... temblando de miedo. Luego escuché el enorme e infinito grito de la naturaleza". Aunque Munch no observó la escena representada en su pintura, The Scream evoca la emoción del encuentro y muestra una ansiedad general hacia el mundo tangible. La representación de la respuesta emocional del artista a una escena formaría la base de las interpretaciones artísticas de los expresionistas.
