A whistle you use to call your hunting dog has a frequency of 21 kHz, but your dog is ignoring it. You suspect the whistle may n

ot be working, but you can't hear sounds above 20 kHz. To test it, you ask a friend to blow the whistle and hop on his moped. In which direction should he ride (toward or away from you) to know if the whistle is working? Explain in words or with a diagram

Answer:

Away from you

Explanation:

The whistle claims to be making a frequency of 21 kHz.

We need to decrease its frequency to make it audible.

Doppler effect explains the influence of motion of the source on the observed frequency. If the source is approaching the observed frequency will be higher than the real frequency. If the source is receding the observed frequency will be lower than the real frequency

For an approaching source

f_{observed}=f_{source}(\frac{v}{v+v_{source}} )

For a receding source

f_{observed}=f_{source}(\frac{v}{v-v_{source}} )

From the above fact we understand that the friend should ride away from us to decrease the frequency and make the whistle audible.

The whistle you use to call has a frequency of 21 kHz, so you do not recognize it also because your threshold of hearing is only 20 kHz. Since you are unable to hear sounds above this value, you request your friend to blow the whistle and move farther away. The frequency will decrease due to Doppler effect.

A 20000 kg subway train initially traveling at 18.5 m/s slows to a stop in a station and then stays there long enough for its br
hodyreva [135]

Answer:

rise the air temperature is 0.179241 K

Explanation:

Given data

mass = 20000 kg

velocity  = 18.5 m/s

long = 65 m

wide = 20 m

height = 12 m

density of the air = 1.20 kg/ m³

specific heat = 1020 J/(kg*K)

to find out

how much does the air temperature in the station rise

solution

we know here Energy lost by the train that is calculated by

loss in the kinetic energy that is = 1/2 m v²

loss in the kinetic energy = 0.5 × 20000 ×18.5²

loss in the kinetic energy  is 3422500 J

and

this energy is used here to rise the air temperature that is KE / ( specific hat × mass )

so here

air volume = 65 ×20×12

air volume = 15600 m³

air mass  =  ρ × V = 1.2 × 15600

air mass = 18720 kg

so

rise the air temperature = 3422500 / ( 1020 × 18720)

rise the air temperature is 0.179241 K

What is the velocity of an object that has a momentum of 4,000 kg-m/s and a mass of 115 kg? Round to the nearest hundredth.
julia-pushkina [17]
<h2>Answer: 34.78 m/s</h2>

Explanation:

The momentum p is given by the following equation:

p=m.V   (1)

Where:

m is the mass of the object

V is the velocity of the object

Finding the velocity from (1):

V=\frac{p}{m}   (2)

V=\frac{4000kg.m/s}{115kg}

<u>Finally:</u>

V=34.78m/s >>>This is the velocity of the object
