By using the formula for work, we can derive the force

W = Fd
F= \frac{W}{d} = \frac{200}{50} = 4 N

Hello!

If you do 200 joules of work using a force of 50 newtons, over what distance was the force applied ?

We have the following data:

Suppose we treat a constant force (cos 0º = 1)

W (work) = 200 Joules (1N x m)

F (Strength) = 50 N

d (distance) =? (in meters)

We have the following formula of the work of a force:

W = F*d*cos \alpha

Solving:

W = F*d*cos \alpha

200 = 50 * d * cos\:0\º

200 = 50 * d * 1

200 = 50\:d

50\:d = 200

d = \dfrac{200}{50}

\boxed{\boxed{d = 4\:m}}\end{array}}\qquad\checkmark

Positive charge Q is placed on a conducting spherical shell with inner radius R1 and outer radius R2. The electric field at a po
gregori [183]

Answer:

E = 0    r <R₁

Explanation:

If we use Gauss's law

      Ф = ∫ E. dA = q_{int} / ε₀

in this case the charge is distributed throughout the spherical shell and as we are asked for the field for a radius smaller than the radius of the spherical shell, therefore, THERE ARE NO CHARGES INSIDE this surface.

Consequently by Gauss's law the electric field is ZERO

           E = 0    r <R₁

A student connects an object with mass m to a rope with a length r and then rotates the rope around her head parallel to the gro
Alexandra [31]

The object takes 0.5 seconds to complete one rotation, so its rotational speed is 1/0.5 rot/s = 2 rot/s.

Convert this to linear speed; for each rotation, the object travels a distance equal to the circumference of its path, or 2<em>π</em> (1.2 m) = 2.4<em>π</em> m ≈ 7.5 m, so that

2 rot/s = (2 rot/s) • (2.4<em>π</em> m/rot) = 4.8<em>π</em> m/s ≈ 15 m/s

thus giving it a centripetal acceleration of

<em>a</em> = (4.8<em>π</em> m/s)² / (1.2 m) ≈ 190 m/s².

Then the tension in the rope is

<em>T</em> = (50 kg) <em>a</em> ≈ 9500 N.

A basketball player drops a 0.4-kg basketball vertically so that it is traveling at 5.7 m/s when it reaches the floor. The ball
Alik [6]

Answer:

(a) p = 3.4 kg-m/s (b) 37.78 N.

Explanation:

Mass of a basketball, m = 0.4 kg

Initial velocity of the ball, u = -5.7 m/s (as it comes down so it is negative)

It rebounds upward at a speed of 2.8 m/s  (as it rebounds so positive)

(a) Change in momentum = final momentum - initial momentum

p = m(v-u)

p = 0.4 (2.8-(-5.7))

p = 3.4 kg-m/s

(b) Impulse = change in momentum

Ft = 3.4

We have, t = 0.09 s

F=\dfrac{3.4}{0.09}\\\\F=37.78\ N

Hence, this is the required solution.

61. A physics student has a single-occupancy dorm room. The student has a small refrigerator that runs with a current of 3.00 A
Mademuasel [1]

Answer:

Part a)

percentage = 21.3%

Part b)

percentage = 2.13 \times 10^{-5}%

Explanation:

As we know that total power used in the room is given as

P = P_1 + P_2 + P_3 + P_4

here we have

P_1 = (110)(3) = 330 W

P_2 = 100 W

P_3 = 60 W

P_4 = 3 W

P = 330 + 100 + 60 + 3

P = 493 W

Part a)

Since power supply is at 110 Volt so the current obtained from this supply is given as

110\times i = 493

i = 4.48 A

now resistance of transmission line

R = \frac{\rho L}{A}

R = \frac{(2.8 \times 10^{-8})(10\times 10^3)}{\pi(4.126\times 10^{-3})^2}

R = 5.23 \ohm

now power loss in line is given as

P = i^2 R

P = (4.48)^2(5.23)

P = 105 W

Now percentage loss is given as

percentage = \frac{loss}{supply} \times 100

percentage = \frac{105}{493} \times 100

percentage = 21.3%

Part b)

now same power must have been supplied from the supply station at 110 kV, so we have

110 \times 10^3 (i ) = 493

i = 4.48\times 10^{-3} A

now power loss in line is given as

P = i^2 R

P = (4.48 \times 10^{-3})^2(5.23)

P = 1.05 \times 10^{-4} W

Now percentage loss is given as

percentage = \frac{loss}{supply} \times 100

percentage = \frac{1.05 \times 10^{-4}}{493} \times 100

percentage = 2.13 \times 10^{-5}%
