<h3>Answer: 199</h3>

========================================================

Explanation:

In a prior answer, I mentioned how f(n) = f(n-1)+f(n-2) basically means "add the two terms prior to the nth term to get the nth term"

Let's use this idea to compute the third term:

Plug in n = 3

f(n) = f(n-1)+f(n-2)

f(3) = f(3-1)+f(3-2)

f(3) = f(2)+f(1)

f(3) = 1+2

f(3) = 3

Now plug in n = 4 to get the fourth term

f(n) = f(n-1)+f(n-2)

f(4) = f(4-1)+f(4-2)

f(4) = f(3)+f(2)

f(4) = 3+1

f(4) = 4

Repeat for n = 5. This process keeps going until we hit n = 12

f(n) = f(n-1)+f(n-2)

f(5) = f(5-1)+f(5-2)

f(5) = f(4)+f(3)

f(5) = 4+3

f(5) = 7

Plug in n = 6

f(n) = f(n-1)+f(n-2)

f(6) = f(6-1)+f(6-2)

f(6) = f(5)+f(4)

f(6) = 7+4

f(6) = 11

Plug in n = 7

f(n) = f(n-1)+f(n-2)

f(7) = f(7-1)+f(7-2)

f(7) = f(6)+f(5)

f(7) = 11+7

f(7) = 18

Plug in n = 8

f(n) = f(n-1)+f(n-2)

f(8) = f(8-1)+f(8-2)

f(8) = f(7)+f(6)

f(8) = 18+11

f(8) = 29

Plug in n = 9

f(n) = f(n-1)+f(n-2)

f(9) = f(9-1)+f(9-2)

f(9) = f(8)+f(7)

f(9) = 29+18

f(9) = 47

Plug in n = 10

f(n) = f(n-1)+f(n-2)

f(10) = f(10-1)+f(10-2)

f(10) = f(9)+f(8)

f(10) = 47+29

f(10) = 76

Plug in n = 11

f(n) = f(n-1)+f(n-2)

f(11) = f(11-1)+f(11-2)

f(11) = f(10)+f(9)

f(11) = 76+47

f(11) = 123

Plug in n = 12

f(n) = f(n-1)+f(n-2)

f(12) = f(12-1)+f(12-2)

f(12) = f(11)+f(10)

f(12) = 123+76

f(12) = 199

As you can see, it's a bit of work. Recursive sequences can be unwieldy.

Elza [17]

Answer:

  1. $8000 at 1%
  2. $2000 at 10%

Step-by-step explanation:

It often works well to let a variable represent the amount invested at the higher rate. Then an equation can be written relating amounts invested to the total interest earned.

__

<h3>setup</h3>

Let x represent the amount invested at 10%. Then 10000-x is the amount invested at 1%. The total interest earned is ...

  0.10x +0.01(10000 -x) = 280

<h3>solution</h3>

Simplifying gives ...

  0.09x +100 = 280

  0.09x = 180 . . . . . . . subtract 100

  x = 2000 . . . . . . divide by 0.09

  10000 -x = 8000 . . . . amount invested at 1%

<h3>1.</h3>

$8000 should be invested in the 1% account

<h3>2.</h3>

$2000 should be invested in the 10% account

Answer:

x=3/radical2,-3/radical2,3/4

Step-by-step explanation:

By factoring you get

4x(2x^2-9)-3(2x^2-9)=(2x^2-9)(4x-3)=0

x^2=9/2, x=3/4

x=3radical2/2, -3radical2/2 , 3/4

Nathan has a sculpture in the shape of a pyramid. The height of the sculpture is 3 centimeters less than the side length,x,of it
Eduardwww [97]

Answer:

side length of sculpture = 9 cm

height of sculpture = 6cm

Step-by-step explanation:

Given that,

volume of sculpture = 162cm³

side length of sculpture = x

height of sculpture = x-3

formula for volume of sculpture

<h3>V=1/3 a²h</h3>

by putting values, the equation can be used to find the length of the sculpture’s base

162 = 1/3 (x)² (x-3)

162(3) =  (x)² (x-3)

486 = x²(x-3)

486 = x³ - 3x²

x³ - 3x² - 486 = 0

x = 9 <em>(using a graph tool / calculator equation mode)</em>

side length of sculpture = 9 cm

height of sculpture = 9 - 3

                                 = 6cm
