Sarah Liskow was the top scorer in a women's professional basketball league for the 2006 regular season, with a total of 810 p

oints. The number of two-point field goals that Sarah made was 55 less than double the number of three-point field goals she made. The number of free throws (each worth one point) she made was 15 less than the number of two-point field goals she made. Find how many free throws, two-point field goals, and three-point field goals Sarah Liskow made during the 2006 regular season

Answer:

150 one point throws, 165 two points throws and 110 three points throws

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x be the number of free (one point) throws.

The number of free throws Sarah made was 15 less than the number of two-point field goals she made. If y is the number of two points throws, then

x=y-15

so the number of two points throws =x+15

The number of two-point field goals that Sarah made was 55 less than double the number of three-point field goals she made. If z is the number of three points throws, then

y=2z-55\\ \\2z=y+55\\ \\2z=x+15+55\\ \\2z=x+70\\ \\z=\dfrac{1}{2}x+35

so the number of three points throws =\dfrac{1}{2}x+35

The total score is 810 points, so

x\cdot 1+(x+15)\cdot 2+\left(\dfrac{1}{2}x+35\right)\cdot 3=810\\ \\x+2x+30+1.5x+105=810\\ \\4.5x=810-30-105\\ \\4.5x=675\\ \\x=150\\ \\x+15=150+15=165\\ \\\dfrac{1}{2}x+35=\dfrac{1}{2}\cdot 150+35=75+35=110

Can two box plots have the same range and iqr and yet represent completely diff data.. explain
Mila [183]
Yes it is possible. Consider the following scenarios

Scenario A:
Min = 5
Q1 = 10
Median = 12
Q3 = 18
Max = 22

The IQR is equal to the difference of Q3 and Q1
IQR = Q3-Q1 = 18-10 = 8
The range is the difference of the min and max
Range = Max - Min = 22 - 5 = 17

So in summary for scenario A, we have
IQR = 8
Range = 17

----------------------------------------------------------

Now consider another scenario, call it scenario B, where

Min = 100
Q1 = 102
Median = 105
Q3 = 110
Max = 117

I claim that the IQR and Range for scenario B is going to be the same as in Scenario A. Let's find out

IQR = Q3 - Q1 = 110 - 102 = 8
Range = Max - Min = 117 - 100 = 17

So
IQR = 8
Range = 17
which is identical to scenario A.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Scenario B has completely different data than scenario A, yet the IQR and Range are equal to scenario A's counterparts. This shows that it is possible to have 2 completely sets of data yet have the same IQR and range.

The wrap up here, and the answer to the question, is "yes it is possible" with the explanation given above.

The sum of 4 times one number and 3 times a second number is 64. If the sum of the two numbers is 19, find the two numbers.
charle [14.2K]
A) 4*x + 3*y = 64
B) x + y = 19
B) x = 19 - y Substituting B into A
A) 4*(19 -y) + 3*y = 64
76 -4y + 3y = 64
-y = -12
y =12
x = 7
