X = Heather's age NOW
x - 2 = her age 2 years ago
x - 3 = her age 3 years ago

\frac{1}{2}(x-2)+\frac{1}{3}(x-3)=20

The Least Common Multiple of 2 and 3 is 6.  Multiply both sides by 6.

6\cdot\frac{1}{2}(x-2)+6\cdot\frac{1}{3}=6\cdot20 \\3(x-2)+2(x-3)=120 \\ 3x-6+2x-6=120 \\ 5x-12=120 \\ 5x=132 \\ x=\frac{132}{5}=26.4

Think of it this way:

You are trying to make a ratio to the months with thirty days and the ones who don't.

So,

there are 4 months a year with 30 days.

That means that there are 12-4= 8 months a year that are not 40 days.

It said the months to 30 days first in the problem.

4:8

Divide each side by 4, since both are divisible by 4.

1:2

For every one month of 30 days, there are 2 months that do not have 30 days.

1 to 2 is your answer.

I hope this helps!

3(2a + 1) = -5(a + 6)
Lemur [1.5K]
3(2a+1)=-5(a+6)
First expand the brackets.
6a+3=-5a-30
Now add 5a to both sides.
11a+3=-30
Then subtract 3 from both sides.
11a=-33
Finally divide both sides by 11.
a=- 33/11
=-3

A portion of the graph of f(x) = −x2 − 2x + 8 is shown. Which of the following describes all solutions for f(x)?
Naily [24]

Answer:

(x,-x^2-2x+8) where −5 ≤ x ≤ 3

Step-by-step explanation:

The given function is f(x)=-x^2-2x+8.

We want to select the option that describes all the solutions to the parabola.

The domain of the parabola is −5 ≤ x ≤ 3.

This means that  any x=a on −5 ≤ x ≤ 3 that satisfies (a,f(a)), is a solution.

This can be rewritten as (a,-a^2-2a+8)

Therefore for x belonging to −5 ≤ x ≤ 3, all solutions are given by:

(x,-x^2-2x+8) where −5 ≤ x ≤ 3.
