Explorer gets funds from different sources because government want explorer to search those place which are not been explored before to get knowledge of that area .

Firms funds explorer because they want  them to explore different country so they can found out what is the demand of that country and find out is it beneficial for them to invest in that country.

Depends on where you’re talking about. For example in Europe, Christopher Columbus was funded money after asking Queen Isabella. He told her about all the he would bring back to the country. So using that information, they would most likely request funding from royalty or people of high social classes.
