Answer:

area is 26.285cm² permiter is 28.565 cm

Step-by-step explanation:

area

so split the shape into smaller shapes

half- circle

area of a circle is πr^2 so πx4^2 is 12.57 so half this number to get area of a half- circle =6.285cm2

rectangle area = (2+4+2) x 1= 8cm2

triangle area is 1/2 base x height

so 1/2 8 X 3 = 4 x 3= 12 cm2

add them all up 6.285 + 8 + 12= 26.285cm2

perimeter

do it bit by bit again

perimeter of half circle

for full circle =2πr^2 so = 25.13

for half circle= 12.565cm

rectangle part = 2+2+1+1 = 6cm

triangle part =5+5 = 10cm

total perimeter = 12.565+6+10= 28.565 cm

Answer:

140°

Step-by-step explanation:

total angle of a hexagon is 720. We know already 510°. That leaves 210°. The ratio between the two angles is 2:1, therefore angle CDE is 140° and angle DEF is 70 °

Write the complex number -2+2i in polar form
FromTheMoon [43]
For polar form you need to find the modulus (length of the vector) and the argument (angle of the vector) and present in form rcis(Arg) or re^Argi

start with the modulus r=sqrt(a^2 +b^2)
                                     =sqrt(-2^2 +2^2)
                                     = sqrt(4+4)
                                     =sqrt(8)
                                     =2sqrt(2)

next the argument, firstly arg=tan(b/a)
                                              = tan(2/2)
                                              =tan(1)
                                             =pi/4 .     (exact values table)
Now consider the quadrant the complex number is in, as it is (-2,2) it is in the second quadrant and as such your Arg value is:
Arg=pi-arg
     = pi-pi/4
     = 3pi/4

add it all together and your complex number in polar form is:
2sqrt2cis(3pi/4)

note: cis is short hand for cos(x)+isin(x), it is possible your tutor would rather you use the complex exponential form which is simply re^Argi and your answer would look like:
2sqrt2e^(3pi/4)i

Also notice the difference between arg and Arg as this often slips students up and always present Arg in prinicple argument form ie -pi<Arg<pi

Hopefully this has been clear enough and good luck

Can someone help me please? Use the linear combination method to solve the system of equations. Pretty please show your work and
Pavel [41]

Answer:

  (x, y) = (4, -3)

Step-by-step explanation:

  • x-3y=13
  • 2x+4y=-4

First of all, look at the given equations. Here, we see that the second equation has coefficients that all have a factor of 2. If we divide that out, we get an equation that has an x-coefficient of 1, matching the x-coefficient in the first equation.

Here is the reduced second equation:

  x +2y = -2

Now, if we subtract one equation from the other, the variable x will be eliminated. We want to choose that subtraction wisely.

We note that the y-coefficient in the first equation is less than that in the second equation. If we subtract the first equation from the second, the result will have a positive y-coefficient:

  (x +2y) -(x -3y) = (-2) -(13)

  5y = -15 . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . simplify. Note that the x-variable is eliminated, which is the purpose of this exercise.

  y = -3 . . . . . . . divide by 5

We can use this value in the reduced second equation to find the value of x:

  x +2(-3) = -2

  x = 4 . . . . . . . . . add 6 and simplify

The solution is (x, y) = (4, -3).

_____

I find a graphing calculator provides an easy and reliable check of the answer.

Comment on linear combination

This method is often called "elimination," because the purpose of combining the equations in a particular way is to eliminate one of the variables. This requires you look at the coefficients of the variables and devise a plan to combine them so the resulting coefficient for one of the variables is zero.

In the worst case, you can combine ...

  • ax +by = c
  • dx +ey = f

by multiplying the second equation by a and the first by -d:

  a(dx +ey) -d(ax +by) = a( f) -d(c)

  y(ae -bd) = fa -cd . . . . . . simplify; x is eliminated

This sort of approach results in a formula for the solution known as Cramer's Rule.

  y = (fa-cd)/(ae-bd)

The corresponding solution for x is ...

  x = (ce-bf)/(ae-bd)

__

The point of looking at the equations first is that you can often choose which variable to eliminate and what multiplier to use to minimize the amount of arithmetic involved—as we did above.
