<span>3x + (x-8) = 23

Combine like terms first. You can combine 3x and x because they have the same variable.

4x - 8 = 23
Now add 8 to both sides.
4x = 31

Last step is to divide both sides by 4 to isolate the x.
4/4x = 31/4

x = 7.75 is the answer.</span>

A 15-meter by 23-meter garden is divided into two sections. Two sidewalks run along the diagonal of the square section and along
Alisiya [41]

the picture in the attached figure

Applying the Pythagorean Theorem

Find the lengths of the two sidewalks

Step 1

square section

D=√{15²+15²}

D=√450 m

D=21.21 m

Step 2

rectangular section

D=√{15²+8²}

D=√289 m

D=17 m

Step 3

the sum of the lengths of the diagonals of the two sections is

17m + 21.21 m = 38.21 m

the answer is

38.2 m

How do you solve cos(pi/24) using Half-Angle formulas, and leaving in simplified form?
adoni [48]
\cos \frac{\theta}{2}=\sqrt{\frac{1+\cos \theta}{2}}&#10;\\&#10;\\ \cos{\frac{\pi}{24}}=\cos{\frac{\frac{\pi}{12}}{2}}=\sqrt{\frac{1+\cos \frac{\pi}{12}}{2}}= \sqrt{ \frac{1}{2}+ \frac{\cos \frac{\pi}{12}}{2}  } &#10;\\&#10;\\ \cos{\frac{\pi}{12}}=\cos{\frac{\frac{\pi}{6}}{2}}=\sqrt{\frac{1+\cos \frac{\pi}{6}}{2}}= \sqrt{ \frac{1}{2}+ \frac{ \frac{ \sqrt{3} }{2} }{2}  } =\sqrt{ \frac{2}{4}+  \frac{ \sqrt{3} }{4}   } = \sqrt{\frac{ 2+\sqrt{3} }{4} } = &#10;\\&#10;\\ =\frac{ \sqrt{2+\sqrt{3}} }{2} &#10;

\cos{\frac{\pi}{24}}= \sqrt{ \frac{1}{2}+ \frac{\cos \frac{\pi}{12}}{2}  } = \sqrt{ \frac{1}{2}+ \frac{\frac{ \sqrt{2+\sqrt{3}} }{2}}{2}  } = \sqrt{ \frac{2}{4}+ \frac{ \sqrt{2+\sqrt{3}} }{4}}  } =\sqrt{ \frac{ 2+\sqrt{2+\sqrt{3}} }{4}}  } &#10;\\&#10;\\\cos{\frac{\pi}{24}}=\frac{\sqrt{2+\sqrt{2+\sqrt{3}}}} {2}
