The answer would be:

Forces are defined by both strength and direction.

Here is why:

Force is what you call a VECTOR quantity. It is a quantity that is described by MAGNITUDE and DIRECTION. The strength of a force is its magnitude and the direction, well it is the direction the magnitude is applied on the object.

You cannot fully describe forces without both these quantities. Think of it this way, if two people are pushing a car, how would you know if the car is moving if you do not know in what direction are the forces applied and how much strength was used.

It is almost like asking a blind man to catch a ball without even calling out to them before throwing it. He would not know where to face, or how strong you will throw it.

Evaluate (714 mm )/(37 s ) to three significant figures and express answer in si units using an appropriate prefix.
romanna [79]

The SI base units for length is meter (m) and for time is seconds (s).

The given ratio is \frac{714 mm}{37 s}

\frac{714 mm}{37 s} = 19.297 mm/s \simeq 19.3 mm/s

Converting mm/s to m/s as:

Since, 1 mm/s = 0.001 m/s

So, 19.3 mm/s = 0.0193 m/s

Since, zeroes to the left side of the non-zero number are not significant hence, the evaluation of \frac{714 mm}{37 s} to three significant figures and answer in SI units is 0.0193 m/s.

What is the correct name of this isotope? *

oxygen - 16
oxygen - 8
oxygen - 24
artcher [175]

The correct name of this isotope : Oxygen - 16

Further explanation

Given

Isotope : ₈¹⁶O

Required

The correct name

Solution

The elements in nature have several types of isotopes

Isotopes are elements that have the same Atomic Number (Proton)

Atomic mass is the average atomic mass of all its isotopes

In the following element notation,

\large {{{A} \atop {Z}} \right X}

X = symbol of elemental atom

A = mass number

Z = atomic number

The isotope name is usually followed by its mass number, so the symbol above can be expressed as oxygen - 16

(e) A 0.050 mol sample of a hydrocarbon was burned in excess oxygen.
LenKa [72]

The correct answer is 0.15.

We are aware that there is 0.05 mol of an unidentified hydrocarbon we will refer to as "X" and that its burning produces 6.6 g of carbon dioxide and 3.6 g of water.

These quantities might be converted to moles by applying the following formula:

amount= mass/ relative atomic mass

Thus, the following equation may be written for H2O: moles = 3.6 / 18 = 0.2 and for CO2: moles = 6.6 / 44 = 0.15.

0.05X + x'O2 = 0.15CO2 + 0.2H2O

This may be made simpler by dividing through by 0.05 (this step is likely to be the most helpful to you), resulting in:

1 x + x O2 = 3 co2 + 4 H2O

The hydrocarbon must have been the source of all the carbon in the carbon dioxide and all the hydrogen in the water.

Accordingly, 4 x 2 = 8 moles of H and 3 x 1 = 3 moles of C.

There are 3/1 = 3 Cs and 8/1 = 8 Hs in one X molecule.

This clearly identifies C3H8 or propane as the hydrocarbon X (dividing by 1 seems unnecessary, but it illustrates the process to use if there were more than one mol of X in the first equation).
