Answer:

2005 feet

Explanation:

The height of the tower is represented by X in the attached image.

In order to determine X:

Tan 20.8^o = opposite/adjacent = X/5280

Therefore,

X = 5280 x Tan 20.8^o

Tan 20.8^o = 0.3798

Hence,

X = 5280 x 0.3798

   = 2005.344

The height of the tower to the nearest foot is 2005 ft.

A cannonball is fired horizontally with an initial velocity of 20 m/s off a cliff that is 10 m from the ground. if the initial v
Dominik [7]

Consider the motion of the cannonball along the vertical direction or y-direction.

v_{oy} = initial velocity along the Y-direction

a_{y} = acceleration due to gravity

t = time of travel

Y = vertical displacement

Using the kinematics equation

Y = v_{oy} t + (0.5) a_{y} t²

since the ball has been launched horizontally ,  v_{oy} = 0

Y = (0) t + (0.5) a_{y} t²

t =\frac{2Y}{a_{y}}

hence the time of travel is independent of the initial velocity. hence the time of travel remain same.

Consider the motion along the horizontal direction

v_{ox} = initial velocity along the X-direction

a_{x} = acceleration along the horizontal direction = 0

t = time of travel

X = horizontal displacement

Using the kinematics equation

X = v_{ox} t + (0.5) a_{x} t²

since the ball has been launched horizontally ,  a_{x} = 0

X =  v_{ox} t + (0.5) (0) t²

X =  v_{ox} t

hence the horizontal distance directly depends on the velocity. so the horizontal distance will become double.

C) The time won't change, but horizontal distance will double.

You are standing on a bathroom scale in an elevator in a tall building. Your mass is
Oksanka [162]

Answer:

94 kg or 921.6 N

Explanation:

The velocity function is v(t) = 3t + 0.2t^2. The acceleration function, a(t), is the time derivative of the velocity function.

a(t) = \dfrac{d}{dt}v(t) = 3 + 0.4t

At t=4,

a(4) = 3 + 0.4\times4 = 3+1.6 =4.6\text{ m/s}{}^2

Because the elevator is going upwards, the net acceleration, a_N = g + a(4) where g us acceleration of gravity.

a_N = 9.8 + 4.6 = 14.4\text{ m/s}{}^2

The resultant weight is

W =m a_N =64\times14.4=921.6 \text{ N}

Since the bathroom scale is graduated in kg, it's reading is

m =\dfrac{W}{g}=\dfrac{921.6}{9.8}=94\text{ kg}

An object is thrown horizontally off of a cliff. While falling, what happens to the horizontal acceleration?
irga5000 [103]

There is no acceleration in the horizontal direction because the speed in that direction is constant. So it stays at zero.
