Remark

I'm so glad you got a good answer to the central angle problem. Geometry can be that way. What I did was correct and would have worked with any two arcs, but a wonderful answer you got from the other responder.

This problem uses the fact that from an external point, when two secants are drawn (as in your diagram) the difference in the arc sizes divided by two gives the angle between the secants (in this case 23).

Formula

Angle between secants = (large arc - small arc)/2

Givens

Angle between secants = 23

The small arc = 77

The large arc = x

Sub and solve

23 = (x - 77) / 2 Multiply by 2

23*2 = (x - 77)

46 = x - 77 Add 77 to both sides.

46 + 77 = x

123 = x Answer

The accompanying diagram show a cross-section of a rectangular pyramid. The cross sectional area is 36in and is 3 inches from th
LiRa [457]

The area of the rectangular base is the amount of space on the rectangular base

The area of the rectangular base is 60 square inches

How to determine the area of the rectangular base?

The question is incomplete; as the diagram is not given.

So, I will apply the concept of similar shapes to determine the area of the rectangular base

To determine the area of the rectangular base, we make use of the following equivalent ratio:

Ratio = Height : Area

This gives

3 : 36 = 5 : Area

Express as fraction

36/3 = Area/5

Evaluate the quotient

12 = Area/5

Multiply both sides by 5

Area = 60

Hence, the area of the rectangular base is 60 square inches

Anita is years older than Basilio. Three times Anita's age added to six times Basilio's age is 36. 1. Define the variables 2. Cr
Scilla [17]

Answer :Anita's age = 7 years

Basilio's age = 2.5 years

Step 1. Assign variables to Anita's and Basilio's ages.

Anita's age = A

Basilio's age = B

Step 2. Use the information given to form two equations.

Anita is 4-1/2 years older than Basilio

A = 4.5 + B

Three times Anita's age added to six times Basilio's age is 36

3A + 6B = 36

Step 3. Substitute the value of A from first equation in to the second equation and solve for B

3(4.5 + B) + 6B = 36

13.5 + 3B + 6B = 36

13.5 + 9B = 36

9B = 36 - 13.5

9B = 22.5

B = 22.5/9 = 2.5

Step 4. Find the value of A

A = 4.5 + 2.5 = 7

Answer:

Anita's age = 7 years

Basilio's age = 2.5 years
