The difference in height between successive high and low tides is called the tidal range.
DIA [1.3K]3 years ago

Explanation:

In sea levels, tides used to fall and rise due to the gravitational forces exerted by the rotation of Earth, Sun and Moon.

This difference in height between successive high and low tides is called the tidal range as it tells the exact amount of rise and fall.

The tidal range changes according to the change in location of Sun and Moon and it is not constant.

Match each product of pyruvate metabolism with the condition under which it is produced. Drag each item to the appropriate bin.

Answer:

Lactate: fermentation in human muscle

Ethanol: fermentation in yeast and bacteria

Acetyl CoA: aerobic oxidation

Explanation:

Lactate is produced in lactic fermentation in human muscle. Lactic fermentation in muscle cells is a process that occurs alternatively, in situations where the body does not perform aerobic respiration. Considered a short-term metabolic device, activated when the body is subjected to intense physical effort under conditions of low muscular oxygenation.

Alcoholic Fermentation, also known as ethanol fermentation, is the anaerobic pathway performed by yeast and some bacteria, in which simple sugars are converted to ethanol and carbon dioxide. Yeasts usually function under aerobic conditions, either in the presence of oxygen, but are also capable of functioning under anaerobic conditions, or in the absence of oxygen. When oxygen is not readily available, fermentation alcoholic beverages occur in the yeast cell cytoplasm.

Acetyl CoA results from aerobic oxidation. This process occurs in mitochondria during cellular respiration, where pyruvate, the product of glycolysis, can be substituted, and often is, by fatty acids. This is because pyruvic acid is used to form a compound called Acetyl Coenzyme A or Acetyl CoA. In this sense, Acetyl CoA can also be produced by the degradation of fatty acids by a reaction called β oxidation.

How do the unsaturated fatty acids in phospholipids affect the structure of cell membranes?
ludmilkaskok [199]

Unsaturated fatty acids are a component of the phospholipids in cell membranes and help maintain membrane fluidity. The Phospholipids contain a variety of unsaturated fatty acids, when compressed, the “kinks” in their tails push adjacent phospholipid molecules away, that helps in maintain fluidity in the membrane. Unsaturated fatty acids have at least one double bond, creating a "kink" in the chain, the absence of double bonds decreases fluidity, making the membrane very strong and stacked tightly.

The ratio of saturated and unsaturated fatty acids determines the fluidity in the membrane at a temperature, at appropriate temperatures the phospholipids have enough kinetic energy to overcome the intermolecular forces holding the membrane together, which increases membrane fluidity.
