The solubility of any substance whose anion is basic will be affected to some extent by the pH of the solution. For example, consider Mg(OH)2, A saturated solution of Mg(OH)2 has a calculated pH of 10.52 and contains [Mg2+] = 1.7 10–4 M. The solubility of almost any ionic compound is affected if the solution is made sufficiently acidic or basic. The effects are very noticeable, however, only when one or both ions involved are at least moderately acidic or basic. The metal hydroxides, such as Mg(OH)2, are examples of compounds containing a strongly basic ion, the hydroxide ion.

Answer:

In order to reach equilibrium, water will move outside the cell to reach equilibrium. A cell tends to lose or gain water in order to reach equilibrium.

If there are more number of solutes outside the cell, then the water will move out of the cell in order to maintain equilibrium. On the other hand, if there are more number of solutes inside the cell then the water will move inside the cell to maintain equilibrium.

While collecting samples of rocks, if a scientist collects several that contain fossils, the most likely type of rock that his sample is going to be is C. sedimentary rock. Sedimentary rocks are the most common types of rocks, and can be found almost everywhere. This may be the very reason why most of the fossils found over time are located in these very rocks. So, if there is a fossil, it will most likely be found in a sedimentary rock.
