Answer:

When an alkali metal hydroxide is added to an aqueous solution of cobalt (II) salt, Cobalt(II) hydroxide precipitates as a solid

Explanation:

When an alkali metal hydroxide is added to an aqueous solution of cobalt (II) salt, Cobalt(II) hydroxide precipitates as a solid . For example, 2 NaOH +Co²⁺  →2Na + Co(OH)₂

From the water ligands Hydrogen ion attached to the cobalt ion is removed by the hydroxide ions.

From  two of the water molecules , a hydrogen ion has been removed , then the resultant is a complex with no charge i.e. a neutral complex.

One of the important property of cobalt (II) hydroxide are it is slightly soluble in water and it is insoluble in alkalis.

What characteristics are shared by all alkali metals and alkaline earth metals?
serious [3.7K]

Answer:

All alkali and alkaline earth metals dissolves in water to form alkaline solutions.

Explanation:

The alkali metals are found in group one of the periodic table while the alkaline earth metals are found in group 2. These two groups of elements are quite reactive and they react very well with air and water. All the elements in the two groups react with water to give rise to alkaline solutions; solutions whose pH range from 8 to 14.
