Drag the point around to graph more horizontal lines. What is the general equation of a horizontalline?
svetlana [45]

A horizontal line is one for which the value of y is the same for the entire length of the line. Therefore this type of line can be expressed as below:

y=c

Where "c" is a constant that changes the position of the line on the coordinate plane. If c is equal to 2, then we have a constant line that crosses the y-axis at the position 2 for example.

The directrix of a parabola is y=−4y=−4 . The focus of the parabola is (−2,−2)(−2,−2) .
Dennis_Churaev [7]
Because the focus is (-2,-2) and the directrix is y = -4, the vertex is (-2,-3).

Consider an arbitrary point (x,y) on the parabola.
The square of the distance between the focus and P is
(y+2)² + (x+2)²
The square of the distance from the point to the directrix is
(y+4)²

Therefore
(y+4)² = (y+2)² + (x+2)²
y² + 8y + 16 = y² + 4y + 4 + (x+2)²
4y = (x+2)² - 12
y = (1/4)(x+2)² - 3

Answer: y= \frac{1}{4} (x+2)^{2} - 3

What is the difference between the greatest and least amounts of rainfall? 2-1/8= inches?
OleMash [197]

Answer:

D =1\frac{7}{8}

Step-by-step explanation:

Given

See attachment

Required

Determine the difference between greatest and least amount

From the attachment, we have:

Greatest = 2

Least = \frac{1}{8}

The difference (D) is:

D = Greatest - Least

D = 2 - \frac{1}{8}

Take L,C,M

D =\frac{16 - 1}{8}

D =\frac{15}{8}

Convert to mixed number

D =1\frac{7}{8}

4. The ratio of x to y is 1/2. If the ratio of x + 2 to y + 1 is 2/3 , then what is the value of x?
Art [367]

Answer:

4. B

Step-by-step explanation:

x/y =1/2

ie 2x=y

Also (x+2) ÷ (y+1) = 2/3

substituting for y we get,

x=4

Analyzing the answer options to calculate the total profit

(A) 15% of 50 is 7.5

(B) 25% of 50 is 12.5

(C) 33 1/3% of 50 is 16.67

(D) 40% of 50 is 20

(E) 75% of 50 is 37.5

Since selling price is the sum of the cost price and the profit, only 40%

gives us a whole number for selling price, making it our answer choice.(Option D)

Profit = Price - Cost

Now lets make the denominator = 100...So multiply both numerator and denominator by 2

Now you can equal each answer choice easily with equation above.......You need answer that creates even number to be divided by 2

Choices A, B, & E makes the number ending with 5 odd............Eliminate

Choice C is very clear ..........................................................Eliminate

Only one answer left.

Answer D

Check it

2Price - 100 = 40.........2Price = 140......P= 70...Bingo

ms.marks records the number of words each typist can type in 1 minute how many more words could the fastest typist type in 30 mi
krok68 [10]
The fastest typist is Charlie at 60wpm. Let's figure out how many words he can type in 30 minutes using place value strategies.

6 * 3 = 18

Now, move the decimal two places to the right because there is one zero in 60 and one zero in 30.

1800.

Charlie can type 1800 words in 30 minutes.

The slowest typist is Jerome, at 40 wpm. Let's figure out how many words he can type in 30 minutes using place value strategies.

4 * 3 = 12

Now, move the decimal two places to the right because there is one zero in 40 and one zero in 30.

1200.

Jerome can type 1200 words in 30 minutes.

Now, subtract Charlie's words in 30 min by Jerome's words in 30 min.

1800 - 1200 = 600

Charlie can type 600 more words in 30 minutes than Jerome.
