The sound waves causes the eardrum to vibrate and consequent vibration of the three tiny bones of the middle ear. The vibration of the three tiny bones causes the fluid in the inner ear to vibrate. The vibration of the fluid causes the tiny hairs to vibrate and and the vibration is converted to electrical impulses that are transmitted to the auditory nerve and to the brain, where they are intepreted as hearing (sound).
