Answer:

Factors that influence flow. Flow patterns in a fluid (gas or liquid) depend on three factors: the characteristics of the fluid, the speed of flow, and the shape of the solid surface. Three characteristics of the fluid are of special importance: viscosity, density, and compressibility.

- For plants and other organisms to develop differences among their respective species the alleles of their genes must contain
andre [41]

Explanation:

Mutations increase variation within a population.

During the process of cell division, spontaneous changes within the genome can arise. These mutations are errors occur when copies of the DNA within the cell are made; mutations may range from small changes called single nucleotide polymorphisms, to large scale deletions, and additions which span multiple genes. There are two types:

  • somatic: these only occur within certain cells, and arise from environmental factors such as UV light
  • hereditary: occur within germ cells of the parent and later the fertilized egg which forms a zygote; these are present within all cells of the new organism.

Further Explanation:

During reproduction other events, such as crossing over during mitosis and meiosis, mutations lead to increases in genetic variation. This variation refers to the genetic characteristics present within a species. Mutations may be either beneficial or deleterious; they are maintained within cells, as they form new traits called alleles. Beneficial mutations may confer traits that increase the fitness of a species, along with ensuring survival by conferring a protective advantage- these phenotypic differences between organisms are called adaptations.

Sequences of DNA make up genes which can have different forms called alleles. DNA, which makes up the genotype, is transcribed into mRNA and later translated into amino acids which are linked together by rRNA to form proteins which make up the phenotype of an organism.Mutations in DNA sequences affect the corresponding mRNA and thus the protein encoded.

TiliK225 [7]

Answer:

Scientists learn how climatic changes during the ice age affected life in this region by analyzing specimens found in these tar pits

Explanation:

La Brea Tar Pits are a group of tar pits in Los Angeles. Many preserved remains of ancient organisms (i.e., fossils) were extracted from the tar, including, among others, Western horses, prehistoric camels, three-toed tapirs, rodent bones, insects, mollusks, wood, plants, etc. The oldest fossils have been dated to be approximately 38,000 years ago by radiometric techniques. Moreover, the Last Glacial Period was the most recent glacial period within the Quaternary glaciation, which encompassed the period between 115,000 to 10,000 years ago. This period (LGP) encompassed the Last Glacial Maximum (LGM), which occurred about 20,000 years ago. In consequence, many of the fossils found in La Brea Tar Pits evidence how the ice age affected life in this region. Moreover, many of the fossil species extracted from the tar are still present today, thereby indicating how these species adapted to fluctuating climatic conditions, whereas certain species couldn't adapt fast enough as the environment changed and therefore they went extinct.
