You need to isolate either X or Y

For the first problem I decided to isolate the X

I moved the Y and -2 over to the other side of the equal sign. this makes their positive or negative values to turn the opposite. Heres how this looks

5x=-3y-4+2

I then add both the 2 and -4 together to get -2. this is how that would look like

5x=-3y-2

I now have to divide everything by 5 so i can have X by itself. this is what X equals

5/5X= -3/5y-2/5

x=-3/5y-2/5

Now we go back to the problem but we implement the bolded instead of there being an X. This is how that would look like

5(-3/5y-2/5)+3y-2=-4

then I multiply the bolded by 5.

-3y-2+3y-2=-4

from here I just add

-4=-4

I then go back to the original problem and implement the -4 into the Y

5x+3(-4)-2=-4

Solve for x

5x-12-2=-4

5x-14=-4

5x=10

from here we isolate the x by dividing by 5

5/5x=10/5

this leaves us with

x=2

y=-4

To check our answer we imput those into their correct positions. this is how it would look like

5(2)+3(-4)-2=-4

10-12-2=-4

10-14=-4

-4=-4

When both equal the same we know this is True and with that we know the answers are correct. Ill let you try the other 2 so you can get some practice in. (ps. they are easier than the first one)

My name is Ann [436]
The equation of a circle:
(x-h)^2+(y-k)^2=r^2
(h,k) - the coordinates of the center
r - the radius

\hbox{the center: } A(-3,2) \\
h=-3 \\ k=2 \\ \\
\hbox{the equation:} \\
(x+3)^2+(y-2)^2=r^2 \\ \\
\hbox{the circle passes through B(1,3)} \\
x=1 \\ y=3 \\ \Downarrow \\
(1+3)^2+(3-2)^2=r^2 \\
4^2+1^2=r^2 \\
16+1=r^2 \\
17=r^2 \\ \\
\hbox{the equation is:} \\
(x+3)^2+(y-2)^2=17

The sum of two numbers is 35. Their difference is 3. Find the numbers
IgorLugansk [536]

Answer:

19 and 16

Step-by-step explanation:

Let x and y be the two numbers

x+y = 35

x-y =3

Add the two equations together

x+y = 35

x-y =3

---------------

2x = 38

Divide by 2

2x/2 = 38/2

x = 19

Solve for y

x-y = 3

19-y = 3

Subtract 19 from each side

19-19 -y = 3-19

-y = -16

y =16
