The formula for difference quotient is \frac{f(x)-f(a)}{x-a}

Here f(x) = \frac{1}{x}

So f(a) = \frac{1}{a}

First we shall find f(x) - f(a)

We get

f(x) - f(a)

==\frac{1}{x}-\frac{1}{a}

Making denominators same we get

\frac{a}{ax}-\frac{x}{ax}

So we get

f(x) - f(a) = \frac{a-x}{ax}

So the difference quotient shall be

\frac{f(x)-f(a)}{(x-a)}=\frac{\frac{a-x}{ax}}{(x-a)} =\frac{a-x}{ax(x-a)}

Hence the difference quotient is

\frac{f(x)-f(a)}{(x-a)}=\frac{a-x}{ax(x-a)}

Identify whether the relations given in the options are functions or not.
stellarik [79]

Answer:

Graphs 1, 2, and 3 are not functions. Graph 4 is a function.

Step-by-step explanation:

Use the vertical line test.

Imagine a vertical line moving from left to right.

If in any position of the vertical line, it intersects more than one point on the graph, then it is not a function.

In graphs 1 and 2 it is clear that there are many vertical lines than would intersect the graph at more than one point.

In graphs 3, a vertical line would intersect the vertical parts of the graph at more than 1 point, so graph 3 is not a function.

The only function is graph 4.

You are swimming each 25 yard length of a swimming pool 3 seconds faster than your personal best. What integer represents your c
stealth61 [152]

To solve this problem you must apply the proccedure shown below:

1- The problem says that you are swimming each 25 yard length 3 seconds faster than your personal best and you have to calculate the change in time (which you can call x) of your personal best after 200 yards.

2- To calculate this, you must multiply 200 yards by 3 seconds and divide by 25 yards, as following:

x=\frac{(200yd)(3s)}{25 yd}=24s

Therefore, the answer is: 24 seconds.

Which equation is represented by the graph below?
denpristay [2]

Answer:

D

Step-by-step explanation:

I assume that for C and D, you meant e^x.

Since the function is defined at 0, eliminate A and B (since ln 0 is undefined)

Between C and D, we know that when x=0, e^x = 1. Since the y intercept of the graph is -3, this means the equation is y = e^x - 4.

Dan invests £18790 into his bank account. He receives 4.9% per year simple interest. How much will Dan have after 3 years? Give
garri49 [273]

Answer:

£21552.

Step-by-step explanation:

Given information:

Principal amount = £18790

Rate of simple interest =4.9% = 0.049 per year

Time = 3 years

Formula for simple interest:

I=P\times r\times t

where, P is principal, r is rate of interest and t is time in years.

I=18790\times 0.049\times 3

I=2762.13

Total amount after 3 year is

A=P+I

A=18790+2762.13

A=21552.13

A\approx 21552

Therefore, Dan have £21552 after 3 years.
