The purpose of the comedic plays of Aristophanes was to criticize political leaders and other important political figure.

Before Aristophanes, old comedy has been performed for 60 years. In those days, old comedy was vulgar in nature and topically political.  In old comedy, ordinary human took the center stage. They played heroic characters.

Aristophanes was a prominent writer of old comedy in ancient Greece. The works he did are the only examples of the old comedy. His comedies are so innovative and sometimes rough. His comedies were known to criticize the political elite and also addressed social issues including cultural change and the important role of woman in ancient Greece.

Although, Aristophanes comedies were not only a record of Greek theater, it also contributed immensely into the political and social issues or aspect in ancient Greece. It comedic plays impacted jury services and religious ritual during services in ancient Greece.

Aristophanes was born between 450 and 460 BCE. He died also between 386 and 380 BCE. He was from Athens and actually spent his youthful days in Aegina.  

He moved to Aegina with his father. Though there was no record or physical portraits to describe his general body looks but we can come up with the assumption that he was bald. The assumption was based on some of the comment in his work.
