Period 6 is unusual in several ways.(a) It is the longest period in the table. How many elements belong to Period 6? How many me
Nookie1986 [14]

Period 6 is unusual in several ways.

Lanthanum (La), hafnium (Hf), tantalum (Ta), tungsten (W), rhenium (Re), osmium (Os), iridium (Ir), platinum (Pt), gold (Au), and mercury are the period 6 transition metals (Hg).

Why Period 6 is unusual ?

The group of fifteen metallic chemical elements with atomic numbers 57 through 71, from lanthanum to lutetium, is known as the lanthanide or lanthanoid series (IUPAC nomenclature).

The phrase "rare-earth elements" refers to these fifteen elements as well as the chemically related elements scandium and yttrium.

Because it comprises a maximum of 32 elements, the sixth period is referred to be the longest period.

The nonmetals oxygen (O), sulfur (S), and selenium (Se), as well as the metalloid tellurium ( Te ) and the metal polonium, are classified as chalcogens in group 6A (or VIA) of the periodic table (Po).

The periodic table has a group of elements designated as Group 6 in IUPAC style. Chromium, molybdenum, tungsten, and sea-borgium are its constituent elements. While chromium, molybdenum, and tungsten are refractory metals, all of these are transition metals.

True/False: The theoretical yield is often below 90%.
matrenka [14]

False. That reason is because the theoretical field is often in a good state, which is atleast 90% and above.

the reactions at the cathode:

1. the reduced active metal is water, other than that the metal will be reduced

2. H⁺ of the acid will be reduced

the reactions at the anode:

1. if the electrodes are not inert then the metal is oxidized

2. If inert then:

a. OH⁻ from the base will be oxidized

b. The halogen metal will oxidize

1. HCl

H⁺ of the acid will be reduced

Cathode: 2H⁺(aq) + 2e⁻ ⇒ H₂(g)

The halogen metal will oxidize

Anode: 2Cl⁻(aq) ⇒ Cl₂(g) + 2e⁻

2. NaNO₃

Na : active metal, water reduced

Cathode: 2H₂O + 2e ⇒ 2OH- + H₂

NO₃: oxyacid, water will be oxidized

Anode: 2H₂O ⇒ 4 H + + O₂ + 4e

3. CuCl

Cu : not active metal

Cathode: Cu²⁺ (aq) + 2e ⇒ Cu (s)

Cl : The halogen metal will oxidize

Anode: 2Cl⁻ (aq) ⇒ Cl₂ (g) + 2e
