Mathematics

we are given

3x^5-x^4-5x^2+1=0

We can use Descartes rule of sign

This is rule is used to find number positive real roots and negative real roots

Positive real roots:

3x^5-x^4-5x^2+1=0

We will find number of sign changes in this equation

We can it changes from +3 to -1 and -5 to +1

so, number of sign changes =2

so, total number of positive real roots =2

Negative real roots:

We can replace x as -x

3(-x)^5-(-x)^4-5(-x)^2+1=0

now, we can simplify it

-3x^5-x^4-5x^2+1=0

now, we will find number of sign changes

we can see that it changes from -5 to +1 only

so, number of sign changes =1

so, number of negative real roots =1

Complex roots:

We are given

degree of polynomial =5

so, total number of roots=5

we know that total root is sum of all roots

Total number of roots = number of positive real roots + number of negative real roots + number of complex roots

now, we can plug values

5=2+1+number of complex roots

so, we get

Number of complex roots =2.........Answer

Which expression is equivalent to 6(4(6x-4y)-5) ?
iren2701 [21]

Answer:

144x - 96y - 30

Step-by-step explanation:

Step 1: Distribute

6(4(6x - 4y) - 5)

6((4 * 6x) + (4 * -4y) - 5)

6(24x - 16y - 5)

Step 2: Distribute again

(6 * 24x) + (6 * -16y) + (6 * -5)

144x - 96y - 30

Answer: 144x - 96y - 30

(1) Factor the GCF out of the trinomial on the left side of the equation. (2 points: 1 for the GCF, 1 for the trinomial) 2x²+6x-
Tanya [424]

Step-by-step explanation:

(1) Factor the GCF out of the trinomial on the left side of the equation. (2 points: 1 for the GCF, 1 for the trinomial) 2x²+6x-20=0

2x²+6x-20

2(x²+3x-10)

the factors are 2 and (x²+3x-10)

(2) Factor the polynomial completely. (4 points: 2 point for each factor)

2(x²+3x-10)

2(x²-2x+5x-10)

2(x(x-2) + 5(x-2)) group like terms

2(x+5)(x-2)

(3) If a product is equal to zero, we know at least one of the factors must be zero. And the constant factor cannot be zero. So set each binomial factor equal to 0 and solve for x, the width of your project. (2 points: 1 point for each factor)

constant = 2 cannot be zero

the other factors are (x+5) and (x-2)

(x+5)=0 => x= -5

or

(x-2)=0 => x=2

(4) What are the dimensions of your project? Remember that the width of your project is represented by x. (2 points: 1 point for each dimension)

thank you so much, sorry if it's a little confusing!!

(it is indeed confusing, because physical dimensions cannot be negative)

The dimensions of the project (assumed a rectangle) are +2 and -5
