Richard needs to fly from san diego to halifax, nova scotia and back in order to give an important talk about mathematics. on th

e way to halifax, he will get a speed boost from the wind which blows at 50 miles per hour (mph). on the way back, the plane must, unfortunately, fight this wind speed. if the talk lasts 2 hours, and if the distance between the two cities is 3000 miles, how fast must the plane fly in mph if the entire trip is to take 13 hours?

Answer:

550 mph

Explanation:

Let the plane's speed be p. With the wind helping, the plane travels at $p+50$ mph relative to the ground. So, it takes $\dfrac{3000}{p+50}$ hours to make the trip to Halifax. Using similar logic, the way back takes $\dfrac{3000}{p-50}$ hours. Combining these with the 2 hours needed to give the talk yields the total time of 13 hours: \[\dfrac{3000}{p+50} + 2 + \dfrac{3000}{p-50}=13.\]Subtracting 2 and multiplying both sides by $(p+50)(p-50)$ gives: \[3000(p-50)+3000(p+50)=11(p^2-2500)\]This simplifies to $11p^2-6000p-27500=0$. This factors as $(p-550)(11p+50) =0 $, so since $p$ must be positive we have the solution $p=\boxed{550} \text{ mph}$.

You might also simply use a little trial and error on the main time equation above. The two fractions will be roughly equal and must contribute 11 total hours to the left hand side. When $p$ is near $500$, the fractions are about $6$ each; so, trying a few values of $p$ quickly gets to the answer with no messy algebra.

When plane is going towards Halifax the speed of wind is in the direction of fly

so overall the net speed of the plane will increase

while when he is on the way back the air is opposite to flight so net speed will decrease

now the total time of the journey is 13 hours

out of this 2 hours he spent in mathematics talk

so total time of the fly is 13 - 2 = 11 hours

now we have formula to find the time to travel to Halinex

t_1 = \frac{d}{v + 50}

time taken to reach back

t_2 = \frac{d}{v - 50}

now we have total time

T = t_1 + t_2

11 = \frac{d}{v - 50} + \frac{d}{v + 50}

here d= 3000 miles

11 = \frac{3000}{v - 50} + \frac{3000}{v + 50}

3.67 * 10^{-3} = \frac{2v}{v^2 - 2500}

v^2 - 2500 = 545.45v

solving above quadratic equation we will have

v = 550 mph

so speed of plane will be 550 mph

emmasim [6.3K]

f' = frequency observed by the police car after sound reflected from the vehicle and comes back to police car = 1250 Hz

f = frequency emitted by the police car  = 1200 Hz

V = speed of sound = 340 m/s

v = speed of vehicle = ?

frequency observed by the police car is given as

f' = f (V + v)/(V - v)

inserting the values in the above equation

1250 = 1200 (340 + v)/(340 - v)

v = 6.9 m/s

nadya68 [22]

The gravitation force is 1/6 that of earth, and the ice in the same soft drink would float with 9/10 submerged option (B) is correct.

<h3>What is gravitational force?</h3>

All mass-bearing objects are attracted by gravitational force. Because it consistently attempts to bring masses together rather than push them apart, the gravitational force is referred to as attractive.

As we know, the gravitational force is given by:

\rm F = \dfrac{Gm_1m_2}{r^2}

Where G is the gravitational constant.

m1 and m2 are masses.

r is the distance between the masses.

Weight of ice cube = weight of soft drink displaced

mg = ρVg

m = ρV

g does not affect astronauts on earth in a lunar module.

Thus, the gravitation force is 1/6 that of earth, and the ice in the same soft drink would float with 9/10 submerged option (B) is correct.

An astronaut on Earth notes that in her soft drink an ice cube floats with 9/10 of its volume submerged. If she were instead in a lunar module parked on the Moon where the gravitation force is 1/6 that of Earth, the ice in the same soft drink would float:A) with more than 9/10 submerged. B) with 9/10 submerged.C) with 6/10 submerged.D) totally submerged.

Two trucks with equal mass are attracted to each other with a gravitational force of 5.3 x 10 -4 N. The trucks are separated by
HACTEHA [7]

Answer:

7327 kg or 7.3 tons

Explanation:

We have Newton formula for attraction force between 2 objects with mass and a distance between them:

F_G = G\frac{M_1M_2}{R^2}

where G =6.67408*10^{-11} m^3/kgs^2 is the gravitational constant on Earth. M = M_1 = M_2 is the masses of the 2 objects. and R = 2.6m is the distance between them.

F_G = 5.3*10^{-4}N is the attraction force.

5.3*10^{-4} = 6.67408*10^{-11}\frac{M^2}{2.6^2}

7941265 = \frac{M^2}{2.6^2}

M^2 = 53682948.76

M = \sqrt{53682948.76} \approx 7327 kg or 7.3 tons

Which wave lies adjacent to the low frequency portion of the visible spectrum
fgiga [73]

Answer: b. infrared

Explanation:

The visible light with the smaller frequency is associated with the color red.

While the blue is the one with the larger frequency.

Now, as the name says, infrared waves are the ones with a frequency just below the one of the red visible light.

Where the frequency of the red light is something around (4.3*10^14 Hz)

and the frequency of the infrared waves is in the range between (10^12 Hz and 10^14 Hz)

Then the correct option is b, infrared.
