A horizontal platform in the shape of a circular disk rotates on a frictionless bearing about a vertical axle through the center

of the disk. The platform has a radius of 2.97 m and a rotational inertia of 358 kg·m2 about the axis of rotation. A 69.5 kg student walks slowly from the rim of the platform toward the center. If the angular speed of the system is 1.96 rad/s when the student starts at the rim, what is the angular speed when she is 1.06 m from the center?

Answer:

4.36 rad/s

Explanation:

Radius of platform r = 2.97 m

rotational inertia I = 358 kg·m^2

Initial angular speed w = 1.96 rad/s

Mass of student m = 69.5 kg

Rotational inertia of student at the rim = mr^2 = 69.5 x 2.97^2 = 613.05 kg.m^2

Therefore initial rotational momentum of system = w( Ip + Is)

= 1.96 x (358 + 613.05)

= 1903.258 kg.rad.m^2/s

When she walks to a radius of 1.06 m

I = mr^2 = 69.5 x 1.06^2 = 78.09 kg·m^2

Rotational momentuem of system = w(358 + 78.09) = 436.09w

Due to conservation of momentum, we equate both momenta

436.09w = 1903.258

w = 4.36 rad/s

On gasoline powered boats, when should the blower be activated
Verizon [17]
In gasoline powered boats, it is important to keep in mind the proper procedures in handling before activating the engine or your boat. Such as activating the blower. In activating the blower, it is advisable to turn it on after minutes of refueling and the engine should be activated afterwards. It is important to keep in mind to wait for a couple of minutes before turning it on because gasoline powered boats if not used or handled properly could cause harm such as explosion for it uses gasoline.

The speed of surface waves in water decreases as the water becomes shallower. Suppose waves travel across the surface of a lake
Elanso [62]

Answer:

The correct solution is "1.2 m".

Explanation:

The given values are:

Wavelength of waves,

λ = 1.5 m

Speed of waves on surface,

V = 2 m/sec

Speed of waves in water,

V₁ = 1.6 m/sec

As we know,

⇒  V=f\times \lambda

or,

⇒  f=\frac{V}{\lambda}

On substituting the values, we get

⇒      =\frac{2}{1.5}

⇒      =1.33 \ Hz

hence,

⇒  \lambda_1=\frac{V_1}{f}

On substituting the values, we get

⇒       =\frac{1.6}{1.33}

⇒       =1.2 \ m

A sound system is designed to produce a 1.0W/m2 sound intensity over the surface of a hemisphere 20 m in radius. What acoustic p
Marina CMI [18]

Answer:

2513.6 W

Explanation:

Acoustic power = sound intensity × area of hemisphere

Sound intensity = 1 W/m^2

Area of hemisphere = 2πr^2 = 2×3.142×20^2 = 2513.6 m^2

Acoustic power = 1 W/m^2 × 2513.6 m^2 = 2513.6 W
