Sponges are similar to a small intestine because they'll both squeeze parts of themselves to digest foods and nutrients. Not to mention the fact that they're both soft.

The small intestine absorbs nutrients, minerals, and vitamins.

It contains millions of microscopic folds that increases its surface area to help absorb these.
