Since this is a linear equation the rate of change or velocity is constant.  Take the derivative of y with respect to x...

dy/dx=4

This is commonly called the slope of the line.  All lines because they are straight have a constant velocity.

The slope/growth is 4.
Y= 4x+7
Figure 0 / y intercept= 7
The slope / growth = 4

Ann [662]
3.006 rounded to the nearest tenth is 3.0. This is due to the fact that the 6 rounded up will mean that the current 0 becomes 1, but this will not be carried to the tenth when rounding up.

avanturin [10]
Let S be the number of Brand S snowboards sold.
Let B be the number of Brand B snowboards sold.

309S + 489B = 4299
S + B = 11

S = 6 snowboards sold
B = 5 snowboards sold

Find vertex of f(x)=(x+3)(x-5)
astra-53 [7]

The x coordinate of the vertex will be the average of the two zeros, here -3 and 5, so x=(-3+5)/2 = 1, f(1)=(1+3)(1-5) = -16.

Answer: (1, -16)

Let's do it some other ways.  How about completing the square to turn f in to vertex form?

f(x) = (x+3)(x-5) = x² - 2x - 15 = (x² - 2x + 1) - 1 - 15 = (x-1)² - 16

and now we can read off (1, -16) as the vertex.

The other method is the vertex is x= - b/2a =  - (-2)/2(1) = 1.

Three methods, same answer. Good.

3. Classify each function according to whether it is a vertical stretch, a vertical compression, a horizontal
Vladimir79 [104]

The classifications of the functions are

  • A vertical stretch --- p(x) = 4f(x)
  • A vertical compression --- g(x) = 0.65f(x)
  • A horizontal stretch --- k(x) = f(0.5x)
  • A horizontal compression  --- h(x) = f(14x)

<h3>How to classify each function accordingly?</h3>

The categories of the functions are given as

  • A vertical stretch
  • A vertical compression
  • A horizontal stretch
  • A horizontal compression

The general rules of the above definitions are:

  • A vertical stretch --- g(x) = a f(x) if |a| > 1
  • A vertical compression --- g(x) = a f(x) if 0 < |a| < 1
  • A horizontal stretch --- g(x) = f(bx) if 0 < |b| < 1
  • A horizontal compression  --- g(x) = f(bx) if |b| > 1

Using the above rules and highlights, we have the classifications of the functions to be

  • A vertical stretch --- p(x) = 4f(x)
  • A vertical compression --- g(x) = 0.65f(x)
  • A horizontal stretch --- k(x) = f(0.5x)
  • A horizontal compression  --- h(x) = f(14x)
