Newton’s third law states that every action has an equal and opposite reaction. When we kick a soccer ball, it jumps up a bit but comes down again as gravity acts on the ball. Because we kicked the ball, it keeps on moving in the direction we kicked the ball as that is the direction of the force. Friction force acts on the ball in the direction opposite to the movement of the ball, thus slowing it down. Eventually, the frictional force becomes equal to the forward force of the ball and the resultant force becomes zero. Therefore, the ball stops.
