In a particular chemical reaction, the energy of the reactants is 30 kJ and the energy of theproducts is 5 kJ. The maximum energ

y of the system is 40 kJ.
Sketch a potential energy diagram for this reaction. Make sure to label the energy of the reactants, the energy of the products, the activation energy, and the enthalpychange for the reaction.

What is the activation energy for this reaction? 40-30=10kjc.
What is the enthalpy change for this reaction? 5-30= -25kjd.

Answer: Activation energy = 10 kJ

enthalpy change = -25 kJ

Explanation:

Exothermic reactions are defined as the reactions in which energy of the product is lesser than the energy of the reactants. The total energy is released in the form of heat and \Delta H for the reaction comes out to be negative.

Given : Potential energy of the reactants = 30 kJ

Potential energy of the products = 5 kJ

Maximum energy of the system = 40 kJ.

Activation energy is the extra energy that must be supplied to reactants in order to cross the energy barrier and thus convert to products.

Activation energy = Maximum energy of the system - Potential energy of the reactants = (40-30) kJ =10 kJ

Enthalpy change = Potential energy of the products - Potential energy of the reactants =(5-30) kJ= -25 kJ

3. Butane (C4H10) releases 2877 kJ per mole during a standard combustion reaction in air.
Serhud [2]

Answer:

1.  The balanced thermochemical equation for the reaction is;

2C4H10 (g) + 13O2 (g) -----------> 8CO2 (g) + 10H20 (g)

2. Heat when 200g of butane is burned is 9925.65 kJ of heat

Explanation:

2 moles of butane reacts with oxygen in excess to produce carbon iv oxide and water

If 1 mole releases 2877kJ of heat

2 moles will release (2 * 2877kJ) of heat

= 5754 kJ of heat.

The mass of butane used is 200g and converting it to moles we have;

n = mass / molar mass

molar mass of butane = (12 *4 + 1 *10) = 58 g/mol

So therefore n = 200 g/ 58 g/mol

n= 3.45 moles of butane.

If 1 mole of buatne releases 2877 kJ of heat

3.45 moles will release ( 3.45 * 2877 kJ ) of heat

= 9925.65 kJ of heat

9925.65 kJ of heat is released when 200 g of butane is burned.

What effect does a high carbon level have on a deep ocean
oksian1 [2.3K]

Explanation:

High carbon concentration in the deep ocean means increased absorption of carbon to the atmosphere resulting to even greater and harmful amounts of carbon in the atmosphere. Therefore we need to keep a close eye of the deep ocean in the quest to monitor and pump out excess carbon from this part of marine life.
