She's correct, but not for the right reasons. The sum of any two rational numbers <em>is </em>rational, but simply giving one example of that being the case isn't enough. In fact, Andrea could have done <em>billions </em>of similar cases and always found that there was one case she hadn't tested. What we need here is a proof, and here it is.

Let's say we have two rational numbers \frac{a}{b} and \frac{c}{d}, where a, b, c, and d are all integers. Adding the two numbers together, we find that their sum is

\frac{a}{b}+\frac{c}{d}=\frac{a}{b}\big(\frac{d}{d}\big)+\frac{c}{d}\big(\frac{b}{b}\big)=\frac{ad}{bd}+\frac{cb}{bd}=\frac{ad+cb}{bd}

Since the sum or product of any two integers is always another integer, we know that both ad + cb and bd are integers, and since the definition of a rational number is a ratio of two integers, we can say with 100% certainty that \frac{ad+cb}{bd} is rational, which means that <em>the sum of any two rational numbers is also rational</em>.

Side lengths of triangle : 6cm, 12cm, and 7cm. Do these make a unique triangle, more than one triangle, or no triangle
joja [24]

Answer:

8 triangles

Step-by-step explanation:

I took this question to mean that we have the lengths, 2, 6, and 7 and have multiple copies of them. Using these lengths, what are all of the triangles that can be made?

2x2x2

6x6x6

7x7x7

2x6x7

6x6x7

6x7x7

2x6x6

2x7x7

2x2x6 and 2x2x7 don’t make a triangle.

So, 8 triangles can be made.

Matty jogs 9 km/hr. Identify the correct conversion factor setup required to compute Matty's speed in m/s.
Anastaziya [24]

Answer:

2.5 m/s

Step-by-step explanation:

Matty's speed = 9 km/hr

We need to convert 9 km/hr to m/s

We know that,

1 km = 1000 m

1 hour = 3600 seconds

v=9\times \dfrac{1000\ m}{3600\ s}\\\\=2.5\ m/s

So, Matty jogs with the speed of 2.5 m/s.

nikitadnepr [17]

 Construct a 95% confidence interval estimate of the mean net change in LDL cholesterol after the garlic treatment. What does the confidence interval suggest about the effectiveness of garlic in reducing LDLcholesterol?

sample mean = x-bar = 4.7
ME = 1.96*15.6/sqrt(43) = 4.663

95% CI: 4.7 - 4.663 < u < 4.7 + 4.663
